SX Rondo P Bass, Help Identify Age

2 Attachment(s)
Hi

There is a Lefty Bass for sale on my local classifieds.
$175 for it.

Seller says it is at least 6years old.

The old Fender lawsuit headstock is on it.

This actually worth it?
Better than the current ugly headstock versions selling now?
Since this is the avg price of it brand new on the site.

You sure it's a lefty? Seems odd they'd put the decal on backwards.

Tell him you have $150.00 cash and you're coming over to take it off his hands.

I haven't had my caffeine yet today, so apoligies if you're joking, but the decal is upside down, not backwards.

It's the headstock from several years ago. Did SX really get sued over it? It's no more Fender-like than a Sadowsky headstock IMO.

SX are hit-or-miss so definitely play it before buying. If it's one of "the good ones" then make a reasonable cash offer. (Everything in life is negotiable.) Perhaps the seller is simply unware of what's a fair price for this instrument? Print out the rondo music web page as proof that they only cost $119 brand new. SX are not vintage instruments that appreciate 50% in value over just a few years. :)

Oh and don't get hung up on the headstock shape, as it has zero effect on playability and/or tone of the instrument. :)

Unless you hate that new headstock like I do...and then you would gladly pay more just not to have to look at that monstrosity ;)

No. A new one will cost you maybe $120. They may try to tell you it's collectible because it's an old headstock, don't believe it.

I don't believe they got sued, but I'm pretty sure they at least got a C+D order and, being the small company they are, decided not to fight it.

But it IS collectible for those of us that WANT the old headstock... who are you to say what is collectible? I have not bought one SX since they changed the headstock, but I have bought several used SX's with the old style.

IMO, that's a stupid reason to pay for more than the bass is worth. :smug:

Thundar 01-28-2013 11:40 AM

Not any more stupid than for you to say it's NOT worth it...in my opinion, SX basses are worth MORE than what they are sold for.:smug:

You want to go waste your money, you're perfectly welcome to. Know this, not everyone hates the new headstock, and for them, it's a foolish waste of money to pay extra for an old headstock, just because SOME people think the new one is ugly.

Right, that's your opinion. Did you miss where I said it was IMO that it's a waste?

nukes_da_bass 01-28-2013 11:46 AM

SX instruments with the old Fender-esque headstock now sell for more than a brand new new headstock model.

You don't have to agree with it- however the market regulates its own pricing based on supply and demand. Ive seen these sell on EBay for between 200-300 In stock condition.
That said, I agree with other posters and show him six $20 bills fanned out like a beggars banquet!

Thundar 01-28-2013 11:50 AM

No...I caught that...just as I also put IN MY OPINION in my post as well...I didnt tell him TO BUY IT because of the old headstock, and yes, I will spend my money exactly as I choose...not on that ridiculous headstock ;)

Thanks Nukes, you made my point.

Mushroo 01-28-2013 11:50 AM

Well, we should all own good-looking instruments---who wants to show up on stage with an ugly bass? But that's not really the question.

The question is, when you are purchasing a rock-bottom, bargain-basement, entry-level instrument, what sacrifices are you willing to make?

I'm saddened that I'm the only poster who has mentioned "play it to see if it's a good instrument."

Thundar 01-28-2013 11:54 AM

Oh! Well I have 6 SX basses, all with the older headstock...and no I do not think they play any better than probably the new ones do....but they sure look better, so to answer the question, YES...it is worth it

C.Linton 01-28-2013 11:54 AM

All, right, fair enough.
How about this, We just leave it up to the OP whether or not he thinks it's worth the extra money just because of the headstock. I just wanted to make sure he knew that he could get a brand new one for less, if he doesn't mind the look of the newer headstock. That was all I meant, perhaps I could have said it better.
