SXs worth it?

Just wondering if the SX basses from rondo music are worth it. I've been looking for a cheap new bass that doesn't sound crappy.

Try entering "talkbass sx" and "talkbass essex" into the googles, and you shall find your answer my friend.

Short answer is yes they are worth it. Will NEED new strings immediately, possibly some fret work, but overall nice basses. Especially when you consider price.

Search for essex club, lots of good info!

Yes. Bang for the buck you can't beat SX. I own a SX P and a J and after a set up and a new set of strings, it's a good playing, good sounding bass. It's no American Fender, but a darn good bass for the money. They are also a great platform for modding as well. If for some reason you get a dud, Rondo has a good return policy as well. Search TB for SX or Essex....lots of love for 'em here.

Nice instruments. I have a fretless.P, and it feels solid and high quality in my hands. In some ways it's nicer than my VM Squier.

I'm looking forward to getting one for fun, once one pops up in a color I'm looking for. Not to derail, but has there ever been an orange SX Precision made?

+1 on strings + setup. If you can do these things yourself, you can't beat SX.

I've set up a buddy's SX Jazz and it was pretty nice. Also, my main bass right now actually has an SX Ash P bass body. Fantastic. Just as good as any other body I've seen/played. And I've owned MIA Fenders.
The only diffference with the SX that some might consider a negative, is that the woodgrain is not matching between the 3 blocks that make up the body... doesn't bother me a bit though. The finish is a gorgeous transparent sunburst and the pickguard was 3-ply white pearl that is every bit as nice as any Fender aftermarket guard.
Pickup, pots, and bridge were good for the money, but I switched them out to upgrade. Fender MIA P pickup and vintage threaded brass saddle bridge.
Anyway, didn't mean to tangent. But I'm a fan!

HI,
I picked up one after a friend played the bass straight out the box on a gig at Spaghetini's in Seal Beach. It sounded great to me and all the other bass players that were there. I got one and the only thing I changed was the strings. I been using mine for the last few Sundays too.

SX - Yes do it!

I got a 3/4 sized Jazz bass for my daughter and I could not believe the fit and finish. I've seen name-brand instruments at ten times that price without as good a fit.

I'd say go for it... or get you a used one.

Wow it looks like there's a lot of good feedback for these basses.
I guess when I get the money I'll go for it!

The SX basses and guitars are really amazing for the money. right out of the box after tuning them, they usually play abazing, it seems like they do a set up on them at the factory. The fretwork is amazing. The strings are very good and usually there is no need to have any fretwork done, maybe some fine tuning on the trussrod and bridge, but that's about it. The pickups are generally very good also. I would say out of the box they play better than a Fender the Like, because SX are all CNC and their quality controll is amazing, their wood is quality, hardware and pickups are good. If you buy one - you wil be amazed. I have never had a guitar with out a gull set up and fret leveling that plays as well as a SX out of the box. - You will be amazed. Those that say anything other than this review, probably have never played a SX. This is why they get such great reviews on the net because they are Miles ahead of anything near it's price range.
