Some of my favorites are Paul Jackson and Freddie Washington with Herbie Hancock, Alfonso Johnson on some of the early Weather Report albums, Mark Wood with Mideski, Martin, & Wood, Billy Sheehan with Niacin, and Marcello Gulliani iwth Erik Truffaz. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsAiirzHWbU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUqyzY6GoLQ

| | | | Ralphe Armstrong played a fretless P with the Mahavishnu Orchestra - I read an article somewhere in which Ralphe saying that it's one of the reasons he got the job!
Chuck Rainey played a P - some jazzy lines with Steely Dan and early Rickie Lee Jones (I think)....not really jazz, though.
Agree with the Fusion thing - a natural home for the P. |

People using Precision basses always play in the genre of Precision. Silly. |

| | | | I play jazz with a parts P bass that wears old flats. Works well, and I can get a thumpier sound than the other bassist who plays a Jazz copy.

| | Registered User | | | | Generally speaking you do not have to play Jazz music with a Jazz bass
I have seen P basses being used in anything from rock and metal to slap, jazz and r&b. It all comes down to personal preference and desired tone/sound. |
