There's something about a P-bass
Anyone that has seen my posts here over the years on TB knows that Spector basses are my favorite, but I also like the P-bass. I played my 2006 MIA P-bass at tonight's jam and I kept thinking just how good it sounded. They are a player's bass for sure. The "simple" design with the single pup configuration is deceiving. No, these are very responsive basses that give a lot back.

Not gonna argue that. But, I love my Jazz Basses. While I find my P to be fun and enjoyable to play, I can only get the exact tone I want from the J.
I do agree, though, a P bass is a bassists friend.

I only own one bass at the moment...my Fender 62RI P-Bass...and honestly it's all I need or want...(although I do love looking at other basses).

That "something" is awesomeness.

I just can't give enough praise to a p-bass! They are just perfect imo! The matt freeman squier pbass is based off a late 70's i believe and it beats ANY bass I have played! even other matt freeman p's!!!! I am still trying to decide if i want rounds or flats on this bass, i keep switching to often... :D There's nothing like a pbass, they just always felt like "home" for me. Why? well, ohohoho monsieur! Let me explain:
1) simple design
2) punchy as hell in the low/mid mids
3) nice chunky neck!
4) awesome body style
5) just plain sexy!
6) all of the above!

I've played a Fender bass for the last 50 years. Always a Precision or Jazz. Love 'em.

I have a P-clone... I'll own the real deal pretty soon...ish...
Really dig the Fender 50's classic Precision.

I have a Fender P5, and with the risk of incoming flak I'll give you it's ... OK. ;)
I am a Jazz kind of guy though, but totally accept others can have different tastes.

Love the Precision. People who don't like it think of it as a simple bass with no versatility, but they're only half right. It's a simple little bass, but anyone who thinks it's not versatile is deaf. James Jamerson, Rocco Prestia, John Entwistle, Phil Lynott, Paul Jackson, Adam Clayton, Dave Hope, Steve Harris, Mike Dirnt, Cliff Williams, Dee Dee Ramone...do any of them even remotely sound like the other with a Precision? Started out with a Precision, then fought it for a long time by adding a second pickup or trying other basses, but dadgum it, the Precision just plain works.

I have a squier p bass and it is really great. I'm considering the Nate Mendel p bass for my next one. Great feel to it and it weighed even less than my VM p bass!

P/flats, J/rounds and you're set for life!
|rodl2005 ||09-22-2013 05:32 AM |
Agreed. P is king imo. Love ALL different basses but the P certainly has a vibe. Especially with a good tube amp.

One Precision with flats, and 1 P w/ rounds. Covers just about everything. And, nearly everyone is happy!

Been playing the same Precision bass since '73 - always delivers - the sound is exactly the way I want it to be - Once I dial in the tone on my amp, a simple turn of the volume and tone controls is all the versatility I need.

theres something about this one...p46, tonestyler, mahogany body, 69 neck...my best ever
|flbass82 ||09-22-2013 06:11 AM |
There is something sexy about hearing a p bass/ flats with the tone rolled off....music to my ears!
|frankieC ||09-22-2013 06:24 AM |
I love a good p bass, too. They're kind of like "going home".
I have a P, a J, and a PJ. lol... Covered all the "basses".
