Jay I talked to Curt this afternoon, I think it is somewhat dry in the store and it makes it easy to build up a static charge. Now that I think of it when Johnny Smoke did a CD release show there in '07 my '01 Thunderbird aka the Butcher Bird (because or all it's mods) had the same problem! My new NR at home is quiet as a mouse. Jay if you want one of these basses you can stop over to my house and check it out I'm right around the corner from the HOG. I don't think it is a problem with the bass. Download? Awesome I'll try and catch the show on Wen.

I appreciate that Scott..
I have had 4 or 5 Gibson Tbirds including the later model Nikki Sixx and none of them did what they did at the HOG.. I played them all over the city for years with Download and never had a problem. Oh well...Maybe it is the Hog environment...I will be in touch...Jay

Curt mentioned to me that you could take it home and try it out That maybe a good option as well. Hey thanks for the kind words about the band !

Thunderbird out of production

Was browsing the gibson website and according to it, Gibson no longer produces the thunderbird. Since epiphone is doing it's version of it, which seems to be fairly accurate with little modifications and different build.

Except for this one that is the very first bass listed on their site, right?

Thanks for the heads up and review! Would love to hear your thoughts after running it through a regular practice or gig.

I have only run it through a small practice amp I will be running it through some bigger stuff wit the band in the coming days. If you are interested the House of Guitars in Rochester NY just got 8 of these in. Give Curt a call at 585-544-3500 and tell him Hoss sent you.

NR Thunderbird question

Here are my Thunderbirds...

And here are their threads:

Battle of the 'birds

Lakland 44-66 ThunderJazz?

Question about the new NR Thunderbird, if anybody knows...Gibson says this about the finish:
Finish
Sealer Nitrocellulose
Process 1-1.5 mils
Is the clear coat nitro, then? I suspect that the paint is nitro and the clear coat is poly, but that is purely speculation. Does anybody know? I suppose I could let in sit in a tubular stand for a couple days and find out...

Yes- Gibsons have a Nitro clear coat.

Click gibson usa, and then click out of production. That one is in there.

My new NR T-bird arrived last Wednesday. This thing is gorgeous and plays like a dream! It's probably one of the first 2 or 3 bursts Gibson shipped out.

Was at Sam Ash last night. My son needed reeds for his sax. The wife was off helping him so I was left with time to kill exploring. Tried a nice P, meh. Tried a nice Gibson double cut, meh. Tried a nice Gibson Thunderbird, uh-oh. Man it was VERY sweet! Understand the love now. Trying REAL hard to head off the GAS ....

It's long overdue for some cosmetic changes, since the Epi is so similar and at a lower price Gibson may be withdrawing it from production.............I only have 12 so, I'll try and make do

Agreed! Funny thing, the photos Gibson finally put on their website caused me to change my order from a Pelham Blue NR to a burst. I'm really, really happy I did that. I know the black hardware gets a lot of criticism and it definitely looks better, more subtle on the burst.

I know the other fellow who got the other burst Gibson shipped and it's lighter than mine, which is pretty dark. It's beautiful!

I hope Gibson can reintroduce the Thunderbird with an updated two piece bridge and not the flimsy job that's on the LP oversize. Wish they still used the Warwick style bridges. Offering a single pickup option would be fantastic too. Maybe when that happens I could finally join the club, otherwise it's going to take a while for me to save up for a sixties Tbird II. In the meantime my Les Paul Money fills the void adequately.

Has anyone peaked under the pickguard of the new NR's to see if they have "the cut" ? I would assume they don't - just like the other Studio birds.
