Hmmmm, if its based on the Ultra Bass then I'll give it a miss.

If it's more T-bird inspired then I may have to add it to the GAS list

New pink 8'er

Hey guys,

Figured if anyone would appreciate this it'd be you fine folks here. My band Bamboo Star just recorded a song called Electric Love (you can find it here) and I figured I would theme the look of my custom 'bird to the track!

It's keeping the ball rolling with Shark1's 8 string. I love that bass by the way, and I hope I don't steal your... thunder (been waiting all night to say that), and I hope there's enough room around here for another 8-bird. Here's the latest addition to my flock in Neon Pink.

My bands logo silkscreened onto the TRC

T'bird family portrait (with an unruly distant cousin who's always causing trouble)

Oh also.... she glows in the dark.

So what is it about Thunderbirds that make you guys like them so? Is it looks? Do they have a specific sound? I know I love my Warwick $$ for the output and the growl it has... I'm starting to like Tbirds for the looks(plus I can get a used Epi one for a good deal). If I do get one of the cheaper Epi models, is there a specific Pickup upgrade that's popular or do people leave them as is. I heard somewhere that the white Epi Tbird has higher output with the chrome pups than the normal burst models with black pups.

Also, is it worth getting an Epi Pro model vs the normal Tbird?

For me it's a combination of a lot of things;

Looks - yeah, you either love em or hate, and I love em.
Comfort - despite what many think, they sit pretty level and are fairly lightweight
The neck - superb, fast, comfy and a pleasure to play
Sound - a fantastic low-mid range growl with plenty of top end cutting through.

The look is a love or hate thing, I love it, the guitarist of my band hates it.
I do think that there are more comfortable and easier playing basses around (but for the amount of money you'd spent on a Epi-pro you won't easily find another bass with so much growl, power and sound, so I took the high action for granted).
The sound, well I own a Pro model (4 string, vintage sunburst) it is an active bass, rock solid hardware and man with the flick of a wrist you can get so many different sounds out of it, just playing with those active electronics. I usually dial the volume to around 95% just to take the edge of, put the pickup blend all the way to the neck pup, boost the bass with around 50% and boost the treble with sth like 10% (ofcourse the amp needs some tweaking aswell) and then it just growls and punches away!

Ow that reminds me I do have a question about the electronics of the epi pro. The pup blend, bass and treble pot all have a notch in the middle (as in you feel a retention in if you twist them) I assume that for the pup blend this means that if you're at that retention the pups are blended 50/50 and twisting them changes this ratio according. However for the bass and treble EQ does this position in the middle mean that the bass and treble are neither booster nor cut (that would mean that if you'd twist them down from the retention position you'd cut the frequencies and if you'd twist them up you'd boost them) or are the frequencies boosted anyway except for if you'd twist the control all the way down? Sorry if this is a bit unclear but English is not my native tongue

I bought a used Epi today. Moved the strap pin. Went to strap locks. Got a set up and some new strings.. Lets see how this works for me.. Heading over tonight possibly to try it through my Orange/HLF rig.
