Can we put a list of replacement parts for TBirds together ?

Pick-ups, Bridges and Tuners ? Seems like a lot of us want to upgrade our black hardware to chrome.

I know Hipshot and Allparts have bridges

Those little black no name tuners that come on the Epi's match for Schallers...Hipshots fit too...

I installed a set of Gotoh tuners on my Epi Goth and only had to do slight sanding to the headstock for them to slide in the holes. It just took a second to use the Dremel on each hole and then the sleeve slid right in.

actually, i think i'm the only one who doesn't want chrome hardware right now. All i want is black gibson post 88' pickups.

This is a really good idea!

It'll take a couple days but I'll start something, post it and have everybody add to it so it's as complete as we can make it.

Still a rumor that Gibson will do a re-issue of the Non - Reverse, but since they've released so many others, let's hope so!

Might be a good idea for a "sticky" message when you add new members, along with a message about where the strap buttons can be relocated as well.

Out of all the birds I've tried/had in my life, none balanced better than my dad's old blackbird. Why? is it the way nikki sixx designed the bass? Tbird1958, how did your Nikki sixx bass (second signature model) balance with all stock? Has it changed with the mods? And does it balance better than your other birds?

Not sure if it was stock or not, but my Blackbird came with the strap buttons in those "off center" positions- and there is no evidence of old holes being filled. It balanced so well I modded my other Birds the same way.

My sources at Gibson tell me a nonreverse is in the works and that they have seen the prototypes. The flood then Henry's legal woes have slowed things down. I am hopeful that it is a reality. They sure have given us plenty of new models this past year.

Yeah, the off center positions are the stock positions on the blackbird. Wish my dad hadnt sold it. He would've given it to me for sure. I'm a huge nikki sixx fan and it's a major reason why i bought my gothic bird. Maybe I should've waited for an epiphone blackbird to appear, oh well.

Also, could you measure the distance between the centre at the bottom of the blackbird to the strap pin and the distance for the top one for the centre too. I'm thinking of converting my goth bird from bolt-on to set neck, and also upgrading hardware (hipshot ultralite tuners 3/8, opti-grab, dunlop dual design straplok) and make it look like a cross between my style and nikki sixx.

Any indication if a Gibson NR reissue would cost the same as a T Bird? Did they back in the 60s? Am I to assume a set neck?

I played this bass and my 8 string at rehearsal last night, it's always balanced effortlessly regardless of modifications, the strap pins are in the stock positions - centered in the end and the middle of the heel. Balance is an open question tho, as Clint (Stiles72) has shown, a players individual preference on strap length is likely going to change how the bass balances. He wears his basses a bit lower and favors a different right hand position than I do - I keep the strap a bit shorter and seem to have a bit of my lower rigt forearm on the upper bout while playing pickstyle. The Nikki Sixx Mk.II is no different than any other post '88 'Bird in terms of balance, tonewise, that's another story

Thx, i play my basses very low (just a bit past my knees) and i have a very thin strap (~1.5 inches width). i just wanted to know if the mods would bring a slight difference in weight compared to stock. guess not. Thx for the info tbird

Shameless self promo..........Me at work. You can see the bass is at or slightly above my waist and my right arm is on the body, balance isn't an issue even with a '76 and it's glorious gigantic headstock and heavy old tuners.

Question for you guys since I am so new to the Thunderbird Club. As some of you know, I just got a Mike Lull T4 and am loving it so far! I usually just keep my hard cases in the closet and use Mono gigbags for rehearsal and even some gigs. The case for the T4 is a little large for my tastes and it actually is pretty tight in the back seat of my Accord. Are there any quality gigbags or soft cases you guys are using or have seen for T's? I would imagine the Lull and it's smaller headstock would help. I tried my Mono, but it was an awkard fit and I don't want to force anything.
