Thunderbird & The Ebony Fret Board

Hi,

Anything special about the ebony fret board on my 91 Tbird or is it just cosmetic?

I'd not call it to be "cosmetic"... Very different sound, even with passive soapbars.

And even with mahogany neckthru body kinda sustain

Very "snappy" and more "present" than ordinary rosewood...

Cheers,
Wallace

It's ebony!? I don't think I've ever seen ebony on an Epi.

I like the ebony look as well. Does the Nikki Sixx Gibbo model have ebony as well?

The Nikki is an Epi, so, I think awilkie makes a good point.

Ebony is an extremely hard wood, it's very stable and if you live in an area with lots of variations in the climate, it won't let the frets pop out like maple or rosewood might

Had a '91 also with ebony fretboard, sounded snappier to me. Preferred over the rosewood. Should have kept mine.

Not really - looks like a standard Tbird fret board.

Cool, it's my first tbird. I have never played one with rosewood.

I understand the neck is thinner on the 91s too.
