tight stingray-y sound

so, i've played borrowed aria stb (cheap low buget) bass with PJ pickups, passive electronics. and i've noticed while plucking strings close to "stingray H" position, i get really tight, punchy sound that cuts trough really good. it's really a big difference when i move my right hand in either direction, it's either to thin or too muddy, but at that stingray spot it sounds so full and round and punchy. am i just imagining things or ? anyone else had that revelation?

This is where part of that whole "tone is in the hands" argument comes from...which I firmly agree with and believe.

Hand position make a huge difference in tone.

+1 to that

It can be more dramatic with some basses as opposed to others, but on my P-bass you can DEFINITELY tell when I change hand positions on it.

as i can hear, difference is more pronounced in mix as opposed to playing solo.

I think the difference is very pronounced no matter what.
