My usual everyday attire is suspenders and a buttonless shirt over that, So I don't have to do ANYTHING special to avoid buckle rash

Geeez. All I do is rotate my belt to the left. Problem solved, no cost.

I'll bet some clear contact paper would work just fine. Maybe double up for extra protection (like wearing two condoms).

I use a Scratch Pad, and they're great. Has anyone tried one of these?

That's great! I just ordered one of those because I have a metal allergy. I guess that makes this the best belt for metal (allergies).

I still have a rather large, brass, longhorn steer skull belt buckle left from my country days in the 70's. I would move it to the side when I played to save the back of my 64 P bass.

One night, we were loading and I slipped carrying my SVT head, and I hit a wall with my hip, and one of the 3" horns on the buckle gored me in the side. I nearly had to go to the emergency room. It did heal alright though. That was the end of wearing that buckle, which is sitting in front of my computer monitor, staring at me.

Since centuries there is a product on the market, used by players of very expensive guitars in classic music, that i saw in a shop in Hamburg/Germany some years ago.
It's a very thin but durable piece of clear plastic, glued on the backside of the instrument.
It's not aggressive for nitro lacquer.
If you don't need it anymore, it can be removed without leaving glue on the instrument.
Ask dealers for classical instruments for it.

I realize this post is late, but georgestrings IMHO this belt makes a lot of sense and it can be used in various settings. Thanks for the link.

I wear a belt, with a big, ornate pewter buckle on it. For some reason, my bass doesn't have buckle rash. If I knew why, I'd tell you, and solve the problem, but the funny thing is, I wouldn't really care if it did.

See, the buckle rash occurs on the BACK of the bass, where no one ever sees it!

Rather stereotypical. It comes down to preference. There are many great rock bassists that play above the belt

I'll never forget the time I went to pick up a young lady for a date, and she had this belt cinched tightly around her ankle.

I wasn't sure what it was about, but I figured, "hey, whatever makes her happy," and we went to dinner, and had some wine, and finally, curiosity got the better of me, and so I asked her about it.

She gave me a sly smile, and purred, "I promised my father I wouldn't let you touch me below the belt."

Nice!

When I used to wear a belt, before a gig, I'd take off the belt and put it back on the with the buckle near my right hip. No problems.

Or put one of these on the back of your bass: http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Pickguar...Materials.html

Ok I just have to ask...

What's the best belt buckle for metal??
