Took the pickguard off my Jazz Bass today...
 

Today, in a fit of boredom, I took the pickguard off my 1989 Korean Squier Jazz bass and learned a little bit about my bass' history.

• Apparently, the pickguard I got the bass with wasn't the original, as evidenced by some of the "unused" screw holes drilled in the body.
• This bass spent a lot of time without a pickguard, as evidenced by significant amount of wear around the neck pickup.
• It is not a "swimming pool" route, so I feel like I can get away with leaving the pickguard off if I choose.

Just thought it was interesting and decided to share. She's a great bass, regardless.

hit the holes with a black sharpie and call it good .. you just lightened your bass by 1/4 lb. :)

All black is a badass look for this bass. I agree with sharpie'ing the screw holes.

That being said, the pickguard didn't look too bad.



Kind of a classic look. I am diggin' the all-black look at the moment though, so I have the screws and the pickguard in a safe place.

I was a;ways a fan of leaving the guard off and putting the screws back in...I luv me sum ugly!!!!!

Also, headstock shot to show off the nice glossy neck and silver lettering, haha.

I'm feeling some cream pickup covers for this. Any suggestions as to where I could get ones that fit?

Your bass probably has two neck width pickups and they usually come in a set with neck and bridge, so keep that in mind. It may not even be possible with those pickups as lots of budget models are epoxied together, so check for that as well.

I'll keep that and mind and check it out.
