Today, in a fit of boredom, I took the pickguard off my 1989 Korean Squier Jazz bass and learned a little bit about my bass' history. - Apparently, the pickguard I got the bass with wasn't the original, as evidenced by some of the "unused" screw holes drilled in the body.
- This bass spent a lot of time without a pickguard, as evidenced by significant amount of wear around the neck pickup.
- It is not a "swimming pool" route, so I feel like I can get away with leaving the pickguard off if I choose.
Just thought it was interesting and decided to share. She's a great bass, regardless.

That being said, the pickguard didn't look too bad.
Kind of a classic look. I am diggin' the all-black look at the moment though, so I have the screws and the pickguard in a safe place.

It may not even be possible with those pickups as lots of budget models are epoxied together, so check for that as well. |
