Tracey Chapman - Fast Car

Don't know if this is the right forum or not...but I would like to know what makes this bass sound so frickin awesome. Maybe it's just a fretless or maybe just better equipment than I have...but any info would be appreciated.

Larry Klein on bass. And Tracy Chapman's debut album is IMO one of the best sounding albums of the 1980s, very good engineering and production work.
