GHS pressurewounds are soo nice on this, as I wanted a little bit of zing to the sound, but a smooth zing...got what I wanted. Smooth feeling too! I'll try these on my P bass later on.

I wasn't much of a white pickup fan either...but with this I think it looks best white on white on silver.

Hello all.. I picked a nice Squier P Bass Special from Master Bass (Thanks Denny!). There were no dings,dents or marks at all you might say `mint`condition. Then I purchased a nice Fender Jazz neck from Meatwad (Thanks Wade!) and I married the 2. Now there is a slight gap between the neck and the side of the body..(upper horn side) that I can place 4 sheets of paper in the gap. Is this something I should be conserned about.. Also thoughts about mods,,anyone. I do have a set of Quarter pounders that I could put in,,but would that mess up the out put of the Jazz pickup.. Thanks for all your thoughts,,suggestions. Laurie

I had a Luthier make the Guard and knobs for me..He did a great job.

I should have taken photos of the entire process but here is my completed Lefty VM Jazz project. I made the following upgrades:

1. BadassII bridge. This is a direct replacement. The screw holes lined up perfectly

2. Dimarzio Model J pickups with cream covers. These are actually humbucking and sound amazing.

3. New control plate with USA CTS pots. The original plate needed to have holes bored out to fit full size pots so I simply used a new one which fit perfectly.

4. Dunlop Strap lock pins. I buy the pins in bulk so I have them every bass.

5. String retainer from a MIM Jazz. I liked the nickle look better then the shiny Squier retainer.

6. Neck re sanded and finished. This was the real fun! I sanded and buffed the entire neck and headstock to take out all the rough spots from the factory and then used the same product used on Ernie ball bass necks. Birchwood Casey True Oil gunstock oil. I applied 7 coats to the neck, headstock and fingerboard, sanding between each coat with 0000 grit steel wool. I buffed the fingerboard and headstock to be shiny but took the back of the neck down to a satin finish and then added several coats of automotive car wax to the back of the neck. It feels incredible and the True Oil acts like a varnish, making the fingerboard look fantastic. This will also preserve the painted on binding and blocks from ever wearing off as they are fully sealed.

I dressed and polished the frets, re assembled her, put on fresh 45-100 Slinkys and set her up with very little relief in the neck and low action. Plays like a dream with tons of snarl and personality. The pickups are just fantastic and I think she's quite a looker!

I may reshape the headstock and do a couple other things, but for now she's done. SUPER light weight ...lighter than my Longhorns... and sounds great. The EMG/Select bucker in the P Bass position sounds really good.... I'm digging it.
