Try to help a big time seller on EBay with an inaccurate listing...

And got verbally berated and attacked! He even blocked me from ever bidding on his stuff!!

Then... He took my advice and changed the listing because he knew it was wrong. Then he took the time to email me back continuing the assault.

Why do I even bother :/

So your non knowledgeable bass brothers don't get scammed. Karma goes a long way. What comes around goes around. Next time just report a listing as fraudulent.

Yeah I guess I should have just reported it. Really, I just wanted to let him that the part could have been older or newer, but definitely not the year he listed or decade for that matter. Just trying to be helpful..

Then the verbal bashing started.. "Whatever" and "smartypants" and "if you're so smart, maybe you should write a book". Like I was in 5th grade again or something.

Well you could always post his conversations here and quickly get him on the TB **** list.

I will gladly make note of a seller to be avoided on my ebay.

How did you pose your correction? Could it be construed as snarky?

Maybe he didnt think you were right and thought you were just being a great big poopoo head.

Honestly, people like that drive me nuts. What you did can actually help them avoid selling and having the item returned as it wasn't original/as described.

Not snarky at all, and wasn't meant to be in the slightest. The item had a year listed, and there was no way that item was that year. I told him it could possibly be older or newer based on what I saw and common info if you are a Fender bass nerd like me

I guess he does not like to receive any pointers from anyone, but he changed the listing and removed the year

Yep. I wouldn't want to deal with him in the future in case an issue should arise with the transaction.

Modern societal norm. Most are easily offended and don't know how to own a mistake. I wonder if it's because we give out awards for lackluster performance?

That guy is the opposite of how we do it.
If someone points out an error in one of our/my posts on eBay I change it then thank them; and sometimes I'll even offer a coupon for taking the time to point it out.

Some people ruin it for the rest of us.

Yeah.. Maybe his ego got bruised because a part-time bass player called him out on something, I don't know. Maybe he is having a bad day, wrecked his car, wife left him, etc..

Or maybe the type of guy to slap the term "vintage" on something to capitalize on those who don't study their stuff before making a purchase. Which is fine I guess, but he put a definitive year on the item, which was false.

My theory is, we as a society don't make it safe to make mistakes -- even if we do own ours, others tend to pile on instead of forgive and move on. Thanks, Internet!

I don't mind admitting when I screw up. Heaven knows I do it enough.

I know. I wasn't asking for praise or a slap on the back.. Just helping him with making sure his item is accurate and ensure the integrity of his auction FOR HIS SAKE! He could have just changed it without replying back, I wouldn't have cared at all.

Agreed. I think it's also a product of internet and otherwise "faceless" communication between people i.e. People can be dicks without the threat of having their face rearranged.

The unspoken threat of being punched in the face if you cross a line is a powerful societal control mechanism that is slowly being erroded due to a number of factors...the consequence of that erosion: more people who act like dicks.

+1 I agree there seems to be an excuse for everything I would tell him to grow up then block his email.

What's funny is that I tend to be more cordial online than in person. In person you can read my tone and body language. Online, I might mean something to be said nicely but the lack of real connection leaves it sounding dickish.

So are you gonna out the guy? Link to the listing?

He clearly deserves the bad press.
