Tye Zamora's new Neck Thru Exotic Fender (pics)

Any one who has seen Alien Ant Farm in their videos or live, should have noticed that bassist Tye Zamora likes custom, or exotic basses. I saw them this past Monday in Detriot, and got to meet the band afterward. When I was talking to him, he asked "how do you like my new bass?, it's a fender". I asked him about his deal he had with Dave Parr, and he said "That guy's loopy, he wanted all kinds of money and stuff".

Tye designed his original bass him self with the help of Dave Parr. The bass can be seen in the video for 'Movies'. They came out with a Dave Parr/Tye Zamora model that you could buy last year or so, it was in the guitar/bass buyers guide.

This new Fender looks almosts like the Dave Parr, but with different woods, and a high gloss finish. It appears to be a Cocobolo top, over a Mahagony body. The pickups have wood covers also. I'm not sure about all the woods or what ever, but check out the pics, and count the neck laminates. I counted 9!

In the show he also played his Kenneth Lawrence Brase 6 string for one song.

here's me and Tye.

I forgot to ask him if regular jerks like me will be able to buy this bass.

He liked my shirt, and asked about talkbass. I told him to stop by sometime.

That's pretty nuts. Doesn't look like any other Fender under the sun.

I guess it's true what they say about the Fender Custom Shop : "If you have the money..."

here's another shot. Check out how the bass is "scooped out" right where you would want it if you're a slapper.

Is this a Parr bass?

This is the bassist for a local band here called Blynd. Looks kinda similar, anyway.

Fender said that the price will be around $7400.

Whoa, thats a beasty looking fender, and for 7 and a bit grand it would want to be! I just saw them playing live on channel V and was wondering what basses he used..what a coincidence..

Very nice, just $7400....but the bass looks gorgeous for a Fender and it's a six string Fender

I was under the impression that the Fender Custom Shop didn't like to venture too much outside of their standard models ?
It sort of looks like a Jerzy Drozd....with an ugly headstock

There's nothing Fender about that bass at all, so why go to Fender to have it built for crazy $$$ when a luthier could do it for a lot less? Does the headstock actually say Fender? (Maybe it was just another Dave Parr with a Fender sticker on it )

I think he was talking about an endorsment deal of some sort. As if Dave Parr wanted Tye to pay him for the right of having his name on the bass. I don't know???

I think the headstock may say fender. It definitly says something, I just couldn't make it out.
Maybe fender came to him?

Because if it generates enough interest, Fender will come out with a signature line.

The Mark Hoppus bass is a good example.

That's one HELL of a signature.

On the other hand, if they put out someting like that, even if it was something like $2400 street and nobody bought it, it'd still be a way for Fender to attach a name and face to an increasingly modern and diverse product line.

Because, really, how many times and ways can you do the J and P? Even the highly touted Becks are essentially Js.

Something like that produced en mass (allbeit lower quality and/or simpler woods) would kinda help bring Fender out of the 50s...

thing i dont get is why u cant get fender with werid woods like wenge purple heart and so on. i know u probly could if u went custome, but they should sell necks and bodys made from diffent woods. they all ready sell, just necks and bodys. i would kill to get a maple neck purpule heart finger board, alder with a wenge top jazz.
