Typical cost to ship a bass? About to toss up an Ebay ad for my old G&L L2000 (tribute), and was wondering how much shipping usually costs. I'd do standard (5-6) day shipping. |
Last one I shipped ( last year), from St. Louis to Attica Kansas was $35 insured ( 98' American Deluxe 5 string J) at Fed Ex. |
Toronto, Canada to Alaska = $100 shipped and insured. No idea where you are located in the US, but $50-75 would cover you for most of the lower 48. |
50.00 to 90.00 shipped with insurance average of 1000.00. Recent ones that I can remember from E Tennesee Medley FLordia 52.00. Arkansas 55.00 Arizona 82.00 SoCal 89.00. I pack well and double box whenever possible. I'd rather spend a few extra bucks than mess up the buyer and myself while waiting forever for insurance check. All UPS Ground. |
I set it up for a bit more to cover shipping just to be safe. It's up now :D 3 tone sunburst beauty if anyone might be interested. |
UPS store is the biggest ripoff going. They charge top dollar to ship basses ground. USPS is my favorite. They generally charge between $20-50. |
Fed Ex GROUND HOME DELIVERY is the only way. $32-35. The best deal out there. |

USPS is the lowest cost. UPS is the highest. FedEx is in the middle. $50 should cover most of your shipping cost. The problem is charging more than that may hinder your sale, as potential buyers will feel that they're getting ripped off. So charging an extra $25-$50 for shipping may cost you $200 in bids. |
Don't forget to factor the cost of packaging in to the shipping cost. If you don't have a box and can't find a free one, buying a guitar box will set you back about $15-$20 plus the cost of bubble wrap, packing peanuts, etc. |

.......and buy insurance. It's only a few bucks, and they'll be much more careful with the package. |
