I have a fretless TL-5. The previous owner installed Bartolini J pickups. It's the best sounding fretless 5 I've ever heard.

Did he have the fb epoxied? I would think that thick slab of ebony would be hard enough without it.

It has a phenolic resin board. I've always assumed it came from the factory that way. I'll try to get some photos.

It may have.. I've never seen a factory fretless TL-5. Didn't think they made any.

I have a chop saw I have been dying to try out. You want me to try to cut out the frets before I send it over? Not really sure what the blade will do when it hits though.....

Second best here - behind a bogart (if you can find or afford one)

Comparing to my modulus(s) it's a better value in a desirable color

It is indeed possible, with a soldering iron, fingernail clippers, some wood filler and some sandpaper I defretted my import model Millennium 5 years back when I decided the sound was boring and I needed a reason to keep it around.
Gutted the passive electronics put in an OBP-3 and it probably sounds more like it would have if it wasn't one of the indonesian made ones.

Thanks. Tenor guitar and electric mandolin of all things!
Feeling right at home with four strings, but still getting reacquainted with the tuning in fourths!
