Uneven response on E string

I've noticed a definite un-eveness in response on the low E string on a Ibanez SR250 that I own. The volume seems to drop of noticeably on the low G, G# and then volume builds back up to a normal response somewhere around Bb or B nat at the 6th and 7th frets. However the low E and F sound pretty good.
.
This instrument has the curved soap bar type of pickups which are supposed to even out the response of the instrument but they actually may be the cause of the problem. I adjusted the bass side of the pups a little closer and the higher (G string) side a little further away and that seemed to help a tiny bit.

I put on a set of decent strings, Rotosound nickels 45-105 and that helped a little as well. The frets seem fairly even as well, as the instrument doesn't seem to be fretting out.

I'm fairly sure the amp is probably not the problem, it's a GK MB200 and seems to be decent enough.

Any suggestions as how to even this out a little more? I am prepared to live with it as is until I can upgrade but suggestions are very welcome.

More fiddling about and eyeballing the thing. It appears the radius of the curved pickups is smaller than that of the fretboard so that the pups are always going to be further away from the G and E strings unless I adjust the A and D's a little higher off the fret board and lower the G and E. I've tried it, it also helps a little, but I am a bit put off with having to "fudge" the setup like this.
