Unpleasent twangy quacking overtone on Ibanez sr300

I'm not sure what exactly it is but for some reason on my Ibanez i keep running into this sort of quacky twangy sound that i don't like. Does anyone know what might be giving me this tone? I'm still not sure if its the pickups, the preamp, the bass's acoustics, the strings, or what and i'd like to get rid of this. Ive already tryed EQing it out and changing the strings, but it seems like changing strings was the only thing that helped but it didn't do much. Also it doesn't seem very prevelent win singling one pickup. Any ideas?

Is it on the D string around the 8th and 9th frets? Mine has a weird sound there and strings didn't help either.

Yeah actualy, it seems to be the worst in that area for me too. Maby ill try swapping out the electronics if its not the strings; my guess then is something in the electronics doesn't like the frequencies, the phase, or something in that area .

My Soundgear was doing something like this, so I just started plucking over the rear pickup. Solved the problem, and the tone is better too.
