How about Schecter? Lots of hate out there.

I can not speak for all of their basses but I have a Diamond series neck through construction bass. I love it. One of the most playable instruments I have ever owned and a great buy for the money.

I took out the ****** EMG pick ups/pre-amp and put in bartolini's with an aguilar pre-amp, which did drastically improve the tone but it was good to begin with.

I love the MusicMan Bongo 6 design, although many people tease its "toilet-seat-shape"

You have kind words for the Ovation Magnum. I love mine, but as far as the price is concerned, I have not seen any asking more than 8 or 9 hundred, tops, with case. Most come in around $700 with shipping and case.

I'd never sell mine – it's mint and plays great and sounds killer through any amp – but I do look from time to time to see what the market says about them. The price seems to be held down by low demand, even though supply is also low.

They have a small following; not many bassists have ever actually played one. Those who have, however, seem to hold onto them because they are simply wonderful. So that explains "hard to find". But don't try to buy mine.

Yep these two basses are my main players live...

problem is most people hear with their eyes...

I saw these online about a year before i picked one up and thought they were a bit silly looking...I still don't care for the shape of the bridge...but i guess i'm a little different than most players...when i evaluate a new purchase i pick it up and play all over the neck...if it FEELS right i plug it in...if it Sounds right then and ONLY then i judge the Aesthetics...

everybody talks smack about them...But i honestly love them...

Got the five string at NAMM a few moons back BEFORE production shifted to Vietnam...in fact my fiver has no serial number and no stamp as to what country it was manufactured in...

the four banger is Korean..

Flame Maple, Ebony, Wenge...what is not to like?

I have basses that cost much more...I play these

however i should add that if i can't see some wood grain i usually won't buy it..lol

I can deal with Trans finishes like My Bird here

I like the Coffee Table look..lol

but full paint I won't ever own one again...

It was a great bass for $132, which is what I paid for mine from Amazon a couple of years back when they still had great deals.

It's not even remotely the kind of bass I would ever play, but if that style of bass works for you, it's all right. There were a lot of things well thought out in the design. For just more run-of-the-mill Cor-Tek contract stuff, mine was flawlessly built.

I love my Ibanez SRX690. I've had a pretty good variety of basses over the years and this one has been the one that I've liked for the longest. After awhile I lost interest in the other basses but not this one. It looks good, sounds good, and plays great.

Unpopular Basses - do you happen to like any Basses others on here seem to not like?
Honestly?

No. Not really.

I have somewhere between two and three dozen basses and all but the MIA/MIJ straight Fender Precisions and Jazzes I consider a waste of time, with the possible exception of the 2003 passive EB SLO SUB, but I've never heard a bad word about these here, ever. They are great basses.

Those are utterly nonsensical criticisms of that bass, BTW. The only legit beefs would be the not liking its distinct neck profile or the stupid Greasebucket nonsense. EVERYTHING else is identical to other Precision models that people here LOVE.

I like the $$, I don't particularly want one, but I think it's a nice bass. I like EB-0s too.

funny, cause I was going to mention my Charvel, which I have always played, but from about 1995 on, I would get the "suspicious" look when I puled it out at a gig. Only recently have some of the younger crowd that comes to our shows been positively receptive to it...and all of the guys who started with me that got rid of theirs and wish they hadn't.

mine might be a crappy import one though, but I still have always liked the way it feels and sounds

There's a group of people here that don't think any of my lefty basses should have been made, and actively encourage any lefty newcomer to learn to play right-handed.

I just ordered me one of these unpopular basses. I believe if more people played them, more people would play them. Howz that for some insightful thinking.

I second the mention of Schecter. I don't hear TBers talk badly about them, actually it seems like they are rarely mentioned at all.

I now have two modern American Fenders, one vintage Fender, an older MIJ Fender, an older Peavey Fury and a 1995 Schecter C-4 XXX. The Schecter is my only bass that I don't consider at least Fender-ish. It's a different beast and fun to play. I bought mine for a steal (in my opinion) and I consider it a serious keeper.

Does it get immediate respect, well no. But that's okay.

Ibanez BTB5. It's not my main player any more, but a great bass that can get any tone you can think of. If you dig a wide string spacing (and I do) it is a fantastic instrument. I made a ton of money gigging that thing for a decade. Never EVER got respect from other bassists. It drove them nuts that I would hang a "nicer" bass on the stand all night as a backup.

I have a couple of Gibson basses - a 77 RD Standard and one of the recent Flying Vs. they're great for a rock player such as myself. One of my friends who runs a studio swears the RD is the best sounding bass he's ever recorded.

I tried many Basses today and the one that stood out to me the most was actually an American Special P Bass in a lovely CAR finish. The tone was incredibly fat and Bassy ("greasy" if you will) and the neck was quite comfortable. Very unique to say the least. I have played many Fender P's and this is the only one that actually made me go "wow."

I then came home and decided to check out what TB had to say about it and found the reception for the AmSpecials unanimously negative. The things said were: "weak tone," "tuning issues," "a MiM for twice the price," etc. Were we even playing the same Bass?

I also tried a Gibson Grabber today. I know many people have nothing good to say about any Gibson Bass on here, so I was not expecting much. I picked it up off the wall, and it was very light (I thought all Gibsons were heavy). I plugged it in and the tone and playability was pretty decent (I thought all Gibsons were muddy messes). What is so wrong about these Basses exactly? They seem pretty usable, and Eddie from Thrice uses one and has some of the best Bass tone around.

This then got me thinking: do any of you have positive experiences with Basses people seem to froth at the mouth in disgust over?
just fyi, grabbers are generally considered an exception to the gibson hate

I can't think of anything I love that everyone else hates (other than Soviet gear, but I like looking at it, not playing it), but I can think of quite a few that I hate but everyone else loves.
