I have an affinity for old, ugly Japanese basses. They have an odd mojo about them that, to me, overcomes their general shoddyness and lack of playability. All the old Sears brands, for example & weird knockoffs like my Pan.

I bought a new SG and love it. People say that Gibsons get lost in the mix but I have not found that to be true. Perhaps they are speaking of the old EBO's. Just have to set the amp EQ up different than a Fender.

While I'm pretty sure I've encountered at least one TB post where someone claimed they didn't like a bass that I love -- and vice-versa -- but I don't seem to like any of the basses that have garnered a more unanimous vote of "unpopular" by the TB masses.

For that matter, I also don't seem to dislike any of the basses that have garnered a more unanimous vote of "unpopular" by the TB masses.

Same here - I play both Gibson and Fenders and can't understand the dislike for Gibson. There no comparison of the lowend growl that a Thunderbird brings to the mix. And my SG is sweet as well.

The neck dive references crack me up - if Nikki Monninger can handle one the wimps out there should be able to as well.

ITT--every brand and model will eventually be claimed to be unliked on TB.

Yamaha BX-1. Criminally under rated bass. And if I haven't played for a while the neck if the most forgiving neck made. I think it's an inch at the nut.

Back in the day I would be hearing flack about Gibson basses. Which would always tone down once I brought out my T Bird.

I love my Uni, but I have it set up to a T and it sounds grrrreat. There was a realistic (Radio Shack ) like this that drew a lot of attention recently. I'd love to score one of the old MIJ Epis.

My Steinberger XL2 is the only bass I have ever owned that elicits the "hate" response. I have heard so many stupid jokes and ignorant comments towards that bass it is just unreal. People seem to love them or hate them, I love mine and plan on always keeping it (in addition to sounding great, it's the best travel bass EVER.) It's really an amazing instrument. I don't see why so many people can't get over the look.

At the studio where I teach we have a 70s Vantage with a dimarzio p pickup and a bolt on neck. It is one of those maple with walnut wings that is meant to look like a neck through from the front. It has a 32" and plays very fast. It is a double cut and everyone thinks it is hideous. I love it.

People dont have anything against my danolectro 64, but, they are pretty uncommon and in fact have never seen one other then mine, and I cant find any on ebay or craigslist. Not even parts, it is a fine bass, but the backplate is pretty cheap work though

My BassMods K6 bass. Plays fantastic, sounds even better! Classic jazz body, "Marcus miller style" neck with inlays like the USA 5 model. Some people hate the headstock but I think it looks kinda cool paired with the classic body shape!

Play what YOU like and don't worry about what other people say or think. People who criticize usually fall into to 3 categories: uneducated, unable to afford what they really want or jealous.

I have a Fender Antigua that most people here despise, I love the thing to death.

It's going to need some Duncan pick-ups
soon.

Great color with a love it or hate it appeal.

People call it pea soup green. I make a killer pea soup that kicks Campbell's a--!

I am not a fan of the finish but they are great basses.
