Looks like I'll have to try one, Bassmanrocke. Love the SF version, so if the VFL is better...

An added benefit, they always sound great in the mix, front of house, and recorded. What more could you want?
Just out of curiousity, what does VFL stand for?

Amazing sound
perfect neck

sunburst finish
forearm contour and tummy cut (not available in 79)

and only 9.8 pounds. (unheard of for a t40)

I saw your thread on that, really nice work. I'm guessing you added the inlays?

VFL = Vertical Flux Loading. It is the name Peavey gave to their unique pickup design. Someone once posted a link to a good technical article on VFL pickups that describes how they work, but I have lost track of it.

Ohhh okay. I'd forgotten that the newer post Super Ferrite pickups were called that. Thanks.

Since most everyone on this thread is the owner or past owner of a Peavey I would like your thoughts on this. I have been thinking of buying a budget bass (less than $200) & have looked at SX and Xavier & read reviews of them here on TB and both seem to get mostly positive reviews. The problem is that I am having a hard time justifying laying down $200 on a "new" bass that is not a MIA product when I could find a used MIA Peavey for around the same price. I guess that since I got my '89 Foundation in January I just can't fight the urge to stick with Peavey's, even if it means buying and using nothing but used gear. Am I alone in this thought

if you can it checked out to make sure there are no electronic of physical problems with it, then by all means, the used bass has much more value as a purchase

No, not alone at all. Peavey only makes one version in the U.S now and only by special order. So most U.S. Peavey fans are buying used.

I've had several SX basses (Douglas, Brice, etc.) and I liked them, but I wouldn't swap any of my Peaveys for any of the SX models I've owned. They were fine; the Peaveys are great.

I met a guy on the southside Chicago GC years ago who brought in a TL-5 and we were A/B'ing it with everything in the house and could not find a better sounding bass in the joint. I've always wanted one of those and a Sarzo. I had a chance to buy a t-40 last year but have had some back issues and thought I loved the tone but no way in hell would I strap that thing on for 5 hours, the guy let me bring it home and try it out and it was 12 lbs on the scale. I recently found the TB thread about shaving weight off the t-40 which has piqued my curiosity.

Yeah, the TL-Five definitely brings the heat! Keep us posted if you end up with the T-40.

My favorite.... my USA Cirrus.

Claro Walnut top
Walnut Body with Maple Stringers
Pau Fero Frettboard

The thing is a tank, I never need to set up up, and it sounds good in any situation.

Pic might be tough to see.. but the top is just awesome.

There's a Cirrus 4 banger on the FS board right now to die for. I want. I wish.

I found a Palaedium up for sale for $299. Anyone know if this is a good price for one?

That's about the going rate. You'll be hard pressed to find a better value for $300.

Assuming you and I are looking at the same bass, I would ask what that gold metal piece is on the headstock.
