Vintage Fender vs. Lakland (Jazz Bass content)

Hi,

I was wondering which would be more versatile. Which would have the most comfortable feel. Would it be the Fender (70's) because it is broken in? I don't want to compare to Fender now and Lakland, but vintage Fender (as the title says...). I would put Dark Stars in the Lakland, and it would be a maybe if I got the jazz bass (I wouldn't want to destroy it!)

Thanks

SUPRISE...panda...

If I voted it would be carrots. Because vintage Fenders don't compare so well with Skylines as with Lakland USA's. I would take a Lakland USA over a vintage Fender, but Skylines IMHO only compare to new-day Fenders. Just look at the asking prices. I would dare say the Lakland USA's play and sound better than the vintage Fenders on the market, and the quality is much better.

Every Lakalnd I play feels the same per model(that's a good thing). Every Fender I play feels different. You could hand me a 55-94 that I've never seen before and I could walk onstage with it and be fine. I you pull a high end Fender 5er off the rack at GC and hand it to me the same way I may be in big trouble. But then again, I suck.

A vintage Fender J and a Skyline JO or DJ with Dark Stars would be a total apples and oranges comparison. So I'm not voting.

By the way, 8 threads started in your first two days on TB?! I would suggest you slow your roll and do some searching and reading, it's a rewarding exercise.

Don't stop me now, cause I'm having such a good time (that should be in song form )

I'd pick a vintage Fender over a Lakland anyday! I've never played a Lakland that impressed me that much that I would pick it over a Fender. No mojo @ all... Laklands are good solid basses. I will either admit that they are capable of more variable tones than a vintage Fender, but none of those tones are gonna sound better than that 1 Fender tone...!!! Imperious Rex!!

Resurrecting this thread here in hopes to not start an extremely similar one..

What would you guys say in comparing a US Lakland to a vintage Fender?

Specifically, a 77 Fender Jazz vs. a Joe Osborne US made.
