For a passive bass, this has got to be one of the hottest outputs I've ever experienced. I'd leave them alone until you see what they can do in all positions first.
The truss rod is like any other - they work very well - but maybe you need some barrel-height adjustments instead?
The truss rod is for neck straightness (or adjusting for a lack of it) and the bridge and top nut are used to get the strings to the correct height.

| Thanks SJ46!
This is definitely going to be my next bass. Certainly something I can tweak a bit as well (knowing me).
One thing i noticed is that if I really want to go all Jazz PU's, it looks like it can be done with a 2nd custom cut pic guard, but I'll just hang with it as is to start. This one at the local GC was nice, but I suspect getting one anywhere on-line will be fine also.
Cheers! |

Very versatile indeed.

I tried to "upgrade" the pickups and it was a colossal failure. Stock pickups in these things are super hot and work well with the stack configuration. That said, I did replace the concentric pots and input jack and add a p style bridge cover. Other than that, this bass will let me cut in the worst of rooms, makes for great photo ops, and plays like silk. Got this bass a while back but never submitted a pic. Would love for my first club to be for the VM Jag!

One of these days I might put an ashtray cover on my bridge, and if I can find a suitable pickup cover maybe that, too. Would probably get in the way of my fingers but with that old school 50s/60s vibe to the design this bass just begs to be chromed out.

I played it through an Acoustic big combo, at the store and it sounded superb! Zero buzz at all. So I bought it 327.74, after taxes, no case. I have been wanting a VM or CV something and I got this. I like the way it does a good P impression, also the stacked knobs are the bomb. It is also one of themore aesthetically pleasing basses out there. Sits kind of funny on my leg though, but does great with your foot on prop standing up. I'm sure, I will enjoy this for a long time. Can I get a number?

Sure enough, they got the multi colored ball ends. That was a main selling point too. All my 5 basses have rounds. Roto's, DR's, GHS and D'Addario's. But, I am learning the slap pluck thing. If it's good on a passive jazz, it can be mastered on the Jag as well.

I thought they might be D'As too - but they aren't.
As I measured the look-alikes, they came in at about .001-.002" thicker that D'As and they had a different patina to them too.
No -they may look like D'As, but they are clones. Not bad - but some basses like them more than others.
The MII colored beads on them are obviously NOT D'As, but they are certainly pretty good on a bass that can use them.
On my VM-Jag, VM-Jazz and VM-P, I put the Elixir Nanos and love them to pieces.

Intervals, triads, major scale modal patterns, etc... Blah, boring, but will come in handy natural finger muscle movements when I get ready to jam. Right now, I am liking jazz pup on full and p on half. Or plain p rolled back. These stock strings are Fenders I guess, they make 'em with mulit colored balls now. But they are not half bad. I find it hard to do the fast 3 finger Iron Maiden right hand thing with them though. My right fingers don't seem to want to roll off them smoothly like my DR's or GHS Boomers. Also, Boomers are an excellent deal for the price. I almost believe I like them better than any of the strings I have had. I hear Flea likes Boomers too. I am gonna have fun with this bass. One day I may steal the Badass II off my MIM Jazz and put on the Jaguar. I am thinking about getting rid of my MIM Jazz 4 anyway, its way noisy. I love the way this Jag looks though, I hate being a copycat and this bass show originality!
