Also, running EB Slinkies 100's, jammed to a bunch of Maiden last night, rocking pretty good. I got another PJ, an Ibanez RBK900, and these pickups actually sound better ran both P/J than the Basslines on the Ibanez! I guess they are matched better.

I wonder if these pickups can be bought separately?
I have another PJ that could use the bump!
I also wondered about a beefier bridge like a BA II also. |

I used to notice I could get a really good Geddy Lee sound, even before I found he had one on his bass! Even with my MIM Jazz and BA II. Now, I see the Steve Harris model has it. After years of having this bridge, I can try and describe it for you. First of all, I don't really label it as hi mass, like many others. I guess it is more solid. But, one of the key things is it doesn't have those rounded edges where the string sits, and it doen't have loose saddles with springs. The saddles are stationary and there is like an edges triangular shape where the string sets, or comes off. Giving the string an edge, at thekey point of tension attack. Thus, resulting in a clearer "piano like" tone, as I saw another TB'er stated it as. Also, I notice the notes sound much more smoother and mellower. i.e. steve Harris. To me, the bridge speaks quality. Personally, I love it. No extra drilling is required, the screws go directly into the same place as the stock bridge screws. Basically, it is a more defined note coming from your strings vs. a jumbled note if you will, from stock bridge. Plus, with BAII you lose a lot of the metallic sound, that resonates from the rounded loose saddles, and you get a more defined, smoother note going to your pickups.

I normally use my Ric with my band but the Jag is one of my backups so one of these days coming up maybe I can get a recording of the Jag when my band isn't sounding like ass (which is usually my fault; can't stand the sound of my own vocals).
There was a guy who posted about a year ago who played his VM Jag on Leno as part of a guest's backing band, busting the "can't play a Squier professionally myth". I'll see if I can find it.
Edit: Found the thread: MY SQUIER VM JAGUAR ON JAY LENO LIVE AND PETE SCHMIDT BASS STRAP
Unfortunately, Hulu pulled the ^%# video down, so you can't watch him play his Jag on TV!

Lovin' my stock Squier Jags, unplugged around the house. Sustain for days. I bought them to mod, but my resolve to do so is waning.
Cheers,
FF

Quick question - what is the size of the allen key needed to adjust the bridge saddles? Thanks!

You already provided the pic, money well spent. I am thinking flats would sound pretty good on these jags with the p pickups. Can't wait to try some flatwound strings.

| | | | It looks like these are on sale at Musicians Friend for $239 for the sunburst and candy apple red. It this the best deal you have seen around lately? I think it is time for me to have one. |

| | | | I found a used one for $175 with a Road Runner hard case and Fender Japan Tuners. It is the black on with the red tortoise pick-guard. It is a really good bass. I am putting a set of Chromes on it. |

| | | | I just scored a Badass II Bridge for cheap. It came off an American bass and it fit right on the Jaguar and the string height and intonation were even good. I think it makes the bass sound a little thicker and fuller. A positive tonal change to my ears. |

I love those pickups so much and the neck was really nice. Ergonomics were great, super resonant. I'm not a fan of the clicky pots, but this is a great platform to modify, for sure. |

I was super surprised about the pickups on this bass, and at this price point. Super easy to play. I tend to like my necks (thumb side) to feel less raw, so I coated it a bit with a few coats of nitro and re-buffed it. |

| | | | Can someone explain to me the clicking tone pots? I have never had anything like them. Are they supposed to be all different tones or just get progressively darker like a normal tone pot. |

And the dial has many detents (clicks) along the dial path.
It allows you to click in the tone without looking if you remember the number in your head without looking and it stays put. |
