A lot of gospel bass players have a really fat, warm fingerstyle sound that I haven't been able to get yet. I'm playing a Lakland 5594 which is a great bass. I'm playing through a markbass 1x12 combo.
I'm thinking that maybe the equipment or electronics might have something to do with the sound these guys have as most of them usually play either MTD or Ken Smith basses. However, I'd be surprised if that same tone isn't achievable on a 5594.
Here is an example. Fast forward to 4:00 and listen from there. http://grooveshark.com/#!/search?q=oh+how+wondrous
Are there any obvious ingredients in this tone? Why can't I get that tone with my 5594 and my 1x12? I can get nice tones but none of the tones I can get have that lovely warmth and roundness. The obvious thing to do might be to add more bass but that seems to just make the sound more muddy and take away clarity rather than add warmth.
Thanks for the advice.
