My first one I bought in 1999. It is a Dinky P arch top solid white Korina. Tongue Oil finished. I have a Bad Ass II bridge on it, EMG P5 pickups and a EMG Preamp (18v). To finish it off, I have a custom made neck from Modulus and Gotoh tuners. It is a near perfect bass!!
Second and much less exciting is my Warmoth G5 Prototype.
When you go to the warmoth site and click on the G5, that is my bass body! Solid 1 piece Mahogony, Seymour Duncan MM pickup, Fender V bridge, EMG 9v Preamp, Fender Tuners. A Maple neck and Fretboard with no finish on it!!!

What's the weight on the first one? | They only make the Genesis neck. It is at the very end of the catalog. When I bought mine, I got it for $700. Mine has the Jazz nut width (1-1/2") and no fret dots. I chose Chechen Rosewood (instead of Grenedillo) and I went with SOMA (White Cedar) wrap. Back then you could choose Red Cedar, SOMA or Alder and pick from Chechen or Grenedillo fretboard.

I remember that one from this thread: Warmoth build starts TODAY
Sweet.
Why'd you choose Mahogany over more popular choices such as Alder or Ash? |

Why'd you choose Mahogany over more popular choices such as Alder or Ash? | Great question. I actually have a couple instruments in my collection built from alder and ash, and wanted to go for something different. Also, I'd recently sold an MTD with mahogany and from everything I've learned about wood tonal characteristics it would be a good recipe match for the Sadowsky electronics package I was going to be putting into the instrument. And what a sound! My only regret is that I did not build something like it sooner.

Wow! that thing is cool looking. Very nice taste. I can't help imagining how cool that would look if the neck was bound with pearl blocks, but it is super cool the way it is. |

The oil from my hands playing it, the sweat and everything make the neck and board look great. Everytime I change strings I take a 0000 steel wool to clean it up a little bit, but nothing else.
The neck is beautiful.

It's my approximation of what an Art Deco-style Fender would look like, if they were around in the 30s. Skiscem, I sent the neck away to Sims to have the LEDs installed. It comes back with the wiring attached, and you drill a hole from the neck pocket to the control cavity. In hindsight, I'd have had them attach the whole lot, because finding a long drill bit was a pain in the ass!

| | Banned | | Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: New York City | | here's my cherry sunburst Warmoth when it was a fretless 5-string:
Wilkinson bridge, EMG J pickups w/ BTC preamp, Kluson machines, Warmoth maple neck w/ lined fretless ebony fingerboard, standard J-Bass body (no idea what kind of wood). I bought it second-hand, already assembled, in 1997; suspect it's a few years older than that.
But it's currently in Michael Dolan's shop getting a custom fretted 8-string neck built & installed. Schaller 8-string bridge will replace the Wilkinson. I'll post a pic when I get it back. |
