Great idea! But by the time you try to pull that with a junior high or high school kid, their mind is already a few miles along the gutter, if not already through the storm drain.

Hipshot doesn't seem to make ferrules for the string-through aspect of their A style bridges. Anyone got a favorite source?

I really liked the Badass II I'd put on my Peavey starter bass, and the Badass I was what the guitar shop in my hometown had in stock.

I swear I just about passed out when I saw that... it's just too beautiful. I've been dreaming of one very similar for a long time and that just knocks me out. What top wood did you specifically order? Is that considered flamed or claro walnut, or did you just get lucky with the piece they gave you? I didn't realize they even offered flamed walnut like that.

A question for some of you; does anybody have a Gecko with the Small 5 neck shape? How do you like it and what does it compare to? Can you name a commonly available bass with a similar size and shape by comparison?

There's some crackers here to get me interested in for my next Warmoth bass.

My own one is very simple and understated. It ws designed to go unnoticed and blend in to the band.

The result of extensive buying and selling of basses to find my perfect combination.

Mahogany body
Wenge neck with ebony fretboard - gold frets and no front dots
Gold Schaller machines
Gold Gotoh bridge
Maxima Gold Strings
SD quarter Pounder pickups
Gold everything else

The result is quite simply the best bass I have ever played or owned.

Now if warmoth only made a 12 string bass neck I'd be all over it like a cheap suit.

My two Warmoths:

The Jazz Bass (Rita): maple/quilt maple body, padouk neck, bloodwood fretboard, gold frets, abalone dots, Fender SCN pickups.

The 8-String (Nathan): walnut body, maple neck, fretless purpleheart fingerboard, Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups.

(The Wishbass is named Steve French. 10 points to anyone who gets that reference.)

The bridge is a 17mm hipshot A. The neck is wenge with ebony fingerboard. Black korina body, oil finished.
Together with Bartolini CBCs and Aguilar OBP-3 preamp it sounds just the way I want.

I've been waiting for a group like this. I've only been playing the bass for a few years and yet I have already owned 7 basses and I have yet to find the one that is right for me. A few months ago (believe it or not) I tried out a Fender Jazz bass for the first time. I was blown away not by it's sound but by it's feel. I knew I had to get one but they just seemed a bit too ordinary to me, so I thought of Warmoth. I was just about to order my personal bass when I stumbled upon this body and neck in the showcase:

Well, I ordered them immediately along with most of the smaller parts. I live in Germany so I also had to pay extra due to customs and stuff. So far I've only drilled the holes for all the screws on the body. I'm still waiting for the Nordstrand pickups to arrive.

Can I get a #?

Here's a few more.

All natural Swamp ash with Pearloid blocks and binding. The Warmoth pickguard matches perfectly.

A Daphne Blue P/J...stack knob.

Fretless Jazz Bass,Ebony neck

Pearl Jazz body in Swamp ash with a P Bass pickup.Matching neck, both front and back.

Warmoth all rosewood Jazz neck...ever though I put a Fender waterslide on it.In Reranch Coral.

Well that should do it for now.Hope that's not too much to look at.I am a big Warmoth fan.

Cheers.

Question for the Warmothians:

I've heard that their jazz necks are fatter around and that the profile isn't very slim compared to Fender's jazz necks. Is this true? Can you notice a significant difference between Warmoth's and Fender's neck profile?

Everything but the body:

I think that Warmoth makes a big mistake by not offering their Gecko line lefthanded.

They are fatter. I was surprised at the difference between the Warmoth and the modern Fender neck. Thought they would be closer.

I'm not at all disappointed in the Warmoth product - it is one of the best necks I've ever played - but certainly not the slim profile of a Fender.

But it's currently in Michael Dolan's shop getting a custom fretted 8-string neck built & installed. Schaller 8-string bridge will replace the Wilkinson. I'll post a pic when I get it back.

Well, finally got the bass back from Dolan:

(note: that's just a reflection from the overhead lights on the lower bout by the tone controls, not a finish aberration.)

It was either find a vintage early 70s, or build my own..... so...

I went with an alder body, Birdseye maple neck, with a Rosewood fingerboard, and abalone inlays. both are exactly as they came out of the showcase, excepting the SS frets. I decided to go with a BadAss II, to mimmick my uncles bass, and SD antiquities to try to get close to the original. Schaller old school TMs. CTS pots... I basically bought everything from Warmoth except the bridge.

The color was a complete fluke, as I was going for a dark charcoal finish, but the luthier wanted to try a new catalyzed conversion varnish, and when the black dye was added and sprayed over the white wash it came out purple... Naturally it should have been a no brainer that the black would just be a dark purple... but no harm done, I fell in love with it the second I saw it, and decided to finish it off just like that.

Once it was all together, I found that the 13th fret was high... so I adjusted the action to get past it while I decided what to do about it. I couldn't get my hands on anything to press it the rest of the way, nor did I want to ship it back to run the risk of it being damaged, so I just took a stone file to it till it was just right. All is well now....

The only thing left to do is to get some copper and line everything, and find a better way to keep the pickups where I want them.

I am not a paint fan (I usually go with natural wood) but that is absolutely gorgeous. Great idea matching the paint with purpleheart!!
