I was thinking more along the lines of Teen Town or Continuum.

Neh, that's been done too many times - be original

Well the idea of the bass was Jaco tone with flexibility.

Interesting, Jaco tone and an active bass. Now I'm getting curious - I'd almost expect a Pedulla like sound rather than a Jaco sound from that. Let's see, errmm, hear. ;-)

I started with a neck, and got my number. Now I have two ongoing bass builds! This is going to look redonkulous, but it will give you an idea of what's on the way.

The top one is a padouk neck, if I'm not mistaken?

Hey guys(& gals?) quick question. I am about to order my body for my build this coming week, I was just wondering as to how long on average it takes to get it once ordered? (I can't find a specified time frame on site) thanks!

I've heard really good things about the SD Basslines and tone circuit i bought. I think its going to turn out nice.

Unfinished: 5-6 weeks
Finished: 10-11 weeks

Don't forget the third option:

Showcase: 1-2 weeks

@JYBass: the SD basslines are far from bad, your tone circuit I don't know. Let's wait and hear.

Nice. Are you going to fret it yourself?

Just received my first Warmoth (and first fretless) neck. The neck is birdseye maple with ebony. I put it on the body of my Squier VM Jazz bass, and it plays like a dream. Now I just have to learn how to play fretless well!

That's a really nice looking neck, and it goes really well with that pickguard. Love the birdseye.

Question for all fellow Warmoth owners: Does anyone with a "slim profile" jazz (4 string) neck have measurements on neck thickness (back to front to fretboard) at some or all of the fret locations? I'd massively appreciate the help.. thanks!

Nope. I ordered both necks with frets. Nickle 6150 on the bubinga/wenge neck, and SS6150 on the maple/macassar ebony neck.

I have zero experience working with frets, and I don't want my first efforts to be on either of these basses. They are both going to be showpieces with a fair bit of money involved, and about the only thing I'm confident of is that no matter how good of a job I would do, it would be followed up by a trip to a professional. I'd rather just get it done right the first time.

One of the lessons I have learned in life is that it's perfectly OK to not be good at something, as long as (A) I know it, and (B) I have a go-to person who is good at it. As Dirty Harry once said, a man's got to know his limitations.

Thanks! It's a Walnut body finished in Tung oil, unfinished Wenge neck with an Ebony fingerboard. The active pickups and electronics are all Seymour Duncan, including the 3-band preamp (the Steve Bailey package).

Here's a quick sequence of the build...

At this point, I called Warmoth and told them I HAD to plug this thing in, and they express shipped me the electronics...

Ready, set, go...

Nice! You got the same electronics as me, how do they sound?

Update-arino!

Its playable! Everything is done except for wiring the electronics! Sounds so good acousticly and plays so nicely, it worked out so well! I'll wire it up tomorrow and then plug it in, maybe post some soundclips! I'm happy!

Beautiful bass, but that neck is particularly gorgeous!
