I wanted to let anyone here know about a possible hazzard for your cats because of bass building. My wife and I are animal lovers and have 8 cats, 2 boxers and a Macaw. I had a few of the long boxes that necks are shipped in sitting in the living room in a pile with some other stuff. All of our cats are rescues except for one, a pure bred Himalayan named Henri who was the cutest little smoosh face cat you'd ever seen. We could not find him and we thought he got out some how. I went to the Humane Society and another pound every day for a week and put up posters all around where we lived. After a week, I was going through the boxes and Henri had crawled into one of those long neck boxes and got stuck and passed away. Needless to say, it was one of the most traumatic experinces of my life to find my little boy dead in a box. If you have cats and have any of those boxes, toss them or close them up. Cats love boxes, but they can get stuck in the small ones. |

My wife accidentally trapped one of the cats inside my sock draw but I think she was only stuck in there for the night. She is a very quiet cat who does not really meow like other cats. She kind of lets out these little squeaks.

I just got a new neck from Musikraft yesterday and I immediately took it and tossed it in the dumpster. Needless to say, just seeing the box brought back some horrible memories. That hit me harder than my mother passing away for some reason. |

Alot of times cats will sneak away into a small and private space when they know the time is up. If it was old, or getting ill, it may have gone there on purpose. We once had a cat climb into the back interior of an appliance to die. We didnt know what happened for days until it became obvious. We had known the cats time was short though.

I'm glad you have some other buddies around the house. I'll be more diligent about getting rid of potential hazards around the house. Thanks for the tip.

My wife is a Vet Tech and she had told me that cats Love small areas. One of our cats love the plastic bags you get from going grocery shoping. We have to make sure they get picked up or she will try to lay inside one.

Eyeballkid makes a very good point, and you don't have to feel responsible for it. Either way, it is sad to lose a friend.

And your advice is sound: keep those long narrow boxes buttoned up if you have small pets. |

We once had a cat climb into the back interior of an appliance to die. We didnt know what happened for days until it became obvious. We had known the cats time was short though. | I've heard of that too, but he was only 6 and in good health. It was probably the most traumatic thing I've had to deal with. I've had many pets pass away due to old age etc. and while their passing hurts, it was nothing like this. If he was old and sick, it might not have been as bad, but since he was still fairly young and active, it was exceptionally painful. The only positive thing that came of this was that I found a gorgeous little siamese kitten at one of the shelters. His name is Oliver and he has helped both me and my wife as he is especially affectionate. I appreciate the kind words from everyone. I think this was the basis for the old addage of "curiosity killed the cat." I think he got stuck or that they just can't back up once in a small area. |

You'll probably never know why your 6 year old passed, but it could have been due to his health, rather than the box. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
