Bought a 5 String Fender Jazz at an auction. Looked good but apparently the neck is too far gone. I guess my options are to part out what is good (won't sell a bad neck) and probably will do ok or replace the neck. Have you folks got any ideas about the way to go. Thanks, I feel like a dumbass. |

Depending on what you spent it may be worth a replacement neck. $200-$300 ought to do it using the existing tuners and hardware.
With all the buying of basses unseen and unplayed it's surprising this kind of thing doesn't happen more often. |

Have you contacted the seller about a partial or full refund?

I don't have much in it (bought at auction so refund not option) Man I thought I could adjust it out, and had my heart set on a 5 string jazz. Any clues on the best, reliable place to get a new neck? Oh, and since I have to replace it anyway, are there any mods like sticking a P-Bass neck on it that could improve it or maybe going with a USA neck. |

| | Dang it, Dale! | | | | | Check out the Standard Jazz V necks at Warmoth. Last time I checked, they had some for under $200.
If you want a P-bass type of sound from your neck pickup, I advise you to install a series/parallel switch. It's the only mod worth doing on that bass, IMO.
Edit: I misread. I thought you were talking about the sound of the bass.
Get a Warmoth neck or something similar and you'll be happy. It's guaranteed to fit.

I do not think Warmoth necks fit Fender V's
Best bet for a good Fender V Is Reliable Fender. I have bought from them before. reliablefender | eBay

I don't know if/how they compare to the Fender American Standard Jazz V neck, but I believe they may be interchangeable at this point in time. That was not always the case, though, so I could be wrong.
Regardless, Warmoth does now make a model to fit the MIM Jazz V (20 fret). The "Deluxe" V necks are 22-fret and WILL NOT fit a standard 20-fret body. |

Thanks, I feel like a dumbass. | how exactly is it warped? ive come across two pretty prevelant issues with these. either running out or adjustment and too much forward bow or a flip at the end of the neck. if its the forward bow issue you could try clamping it into backbow and tightening the truss rod and letting it sit. ive had success with that. if its a flip, its major repair. and if its twisted (which i havent come across) youre f'd too |

I'm replacing a white nut so that's easy enough but graphic or corian and wow, 12 different fretwire choices? Does it really make a difference? |

loosen the rod completely, clamp it up and while its clamped into back bow, max it out and then let it sit. i just did this to a neck (let it sit while i was at work) and it worked like a champ. theres some basses i wish i had back that i got rid of before i knew about trying this. |

Look at the fret size options under the neck selections: http://www.warmoth.com/Bass/Necks/FretSize.aspx
and I've used both graphite and Corian ... they both work very well... look for one with Graphite support rods..... this looks good: http://www.warmoth.com/Pages/Classic...ndard&rods=363

| | | | If you have the means to do so, just measure the frets on the current neck and go from there. When I ordered a neck from Warmoth for my 4 string Jazz I brought home my depth mic and calipers from work, measured what was on the old neck and took it from there.
Or, you could call Warmoths customer support. They're pretty cool over there. |
