Thanks for posting the vids Cheese! I love FH & Snoop's playing! It is hard to watch Keith! Like Jimmy Haslip! I'm a lefty-that-plays-righty, BUT I'd never heard of the reverse.

I am also a Warrior player ('97 4 string, updated electronics) and I dig the modern sound and the 'speed neck'... but I don't get to take it out that much anymore with all the Hillsong style P&W at church, and in a classic rock band.

You're welcome! I have limited experience with Warriors, but the ones I have played really played well. I can see why great players like them.

Here is Keith on a piece he composed. He's not playing a Warrior, but he is absolutely killing nonetheless!!!

Keith Horne interview. At the 3 minute mark he mentions playing lefty but being a righty.

I haven't seen that clip in a long time. Smokin'. That was the 'big Keith big Mullet' period

I tell you what, that is a great clip that present a very good example of the classic Smith with ebony board 'ping'. Pretty cool.

He's (to me) in that rare category of bassist like Jimmy Johnson, who can just shred his brain out if he so chooses, but then TOTALLY cover a groove gig like with Trisha (or in Jimmy's case, with Jame's Taylor). Really impressive player, and it must have taken a lot of dedication to take off and keep off that weight. Seems like a cool cat!

He Was Dazz Band original Keyboardest, for us cats that remember that fantastic Cleveland Band.

He also tours with Alyson Krauss and Union Station when not touring with Trish

To get back on subject I did not know Keith played Laklands

I have owned Warriors (great basses and perfect for gospel)
but gosh I love my old Lakland 4-94

That is so cool, he went from the Dazz Band to Trisha Yearwood. While I lived in Kentucky, and I was very close to Nashville, I used to go down there and check out the musicians. It was a real eye opener to understand how incredibly accomplished and versatile Nashville pros are. I will never forget seeing Johnny Cash's bassist tear the roof off during a bass solo on the Ohio Players "Skintight" at a black club in Nashville. He was smokin' on a Carvin (the same model he was endorsing at the time.)

BTW, I agree that Warriors are perfect for Gospel. If I had my dream arsenal, it might just be a Warrior and a Low End Jazz for some sizzly Urban Gospel.

Somebody get that guy a shorter bass strap, his neck is still showing. I'm not a fan of stiff grooveless through-composed jazz music (it was semi-OK when Jaco did it because he had some visual flair going on, but this is even more contrived, cheesy and emotionlessly academic reading than him even).

Still, the bass is quite pretty and I'm sure it is built to an incredible standard.

Oh well, whether you like it or not, it takes some skill to pull off what Keith Horne did in that clip.

I agree. I'm generally not a fan of that type of music or basses like Smith or Warrior but man oh man the playing is great.

I just like the look of a more traditional bass. Warrior's are almost like artwork they're so nice!

Big +1. This guy is great pocket player. (-1 on the big guy with a mullet look. He's lost a lot of weight and a lot of hair since that video.)

If you don't like Keith on that stuff, just watch some other videos. The guy is a world-class player and can cover any style better than most. He does wear his bass like it is the charm on a necklace, though.

Here's Keith and his Signature Warrior playing some classic funk.

My guess is that Keith Horne had gastric bypass surgery. If you stay in the program, it is a very effective way to lose weight and keep it off.

I think wearing the bass high is a sign of Stanley Clarke influence. He said Clarke was a major influence, and I have noticed that many who admire Clarke where their basses high. I tend to wear mine high although my chops are pretty sad.

You are correct, Keith had the surgery about a decade back. The man has totally transformed his life. Yay Keith!

It's good to know that it has worked for him. I wish him many years of good health and great music.
