Warwick Double Buck or Rickenbacker 4003?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm in the market for a new bass and these are the two choices I've narrowed it down to. I need something that can provide a NICE Rock sound with a good combination of growl and mids, I tried both basses and both are simply superb. The Double Buck is very versatile with a heavy, ballsy tone and a decent amount of punch. The Rickenbacker is like sex to my ears and is one of if not the perfect sound for Rock, the thing just sings, but I've found in some ways its a one trick pony.

So help me decide, the Double Buck or the Rick?

I'm gonna go with a Ric, mainly because they hold their value better.

Both are great basses though.

You will never lose money on a Ric.

$$. A Ric will sound like a Ric basically no matter what you do. It's pretty one dimensional (YMMV). The $$ will cover a ton of tonal possibilities.

I don't know if I'd call a Ric one dimensional, but the Warwick does more. Double bucks sound better, too, IMO. I used to want a Ric SO badly, until I played one.

The rick sounds better of the two if you play with a pick, for fingerstyle i would definitely pick the wick though.

Tough. Rics rock insanely hard and Warwick has some of the most creative offerings out there. Sounds like a no-lose situation to me.

While I personally would not have any desire to ever own either one I would take just about anything over a Ric so just make sure that you play on first since you may find that you can't stand the feel of it.

$$ Love mine! Rics dont do anything for me I have to be attracted to a bass before I even lay a hand on it so I have no idea how a ric plays or sounds and really couldnt care.
