I bought that Fortress One '93 only 3 weeks ago. It is as if it was brand new. Isn't it lovely with those green fluo strings ? I used it last saturday night at a friend's wedding and wow, what a sound !
I really think I have many years of fun in front of me with that bass ...
Cheers !! | Nice one, man! You don't see those early gloss coat ones with the carved cutaways too often. A real classic IMO!

My masterman. I may be picking up a flashback too. How do they sound? I own all active basses but think the flashback is cool. Also what's a good price on a clean 2tek one? |

I love my '96 Masterman. How long have you had that?

RE: The Fortress Flashback - it is a GREAT sounding bass. If you're used to playing actives, the lipstick pickups' output will seem quite low, but stick it out! The neck pickup sounds deep and thumpy as you'd expect, but not without some high-end bite. The bridge pickup is very well-balanced with the neck pickup in terms of output (unlike SO many 2-pickup instruments), and also sounds brighter than a typical humbucker. With the bridge pickup soloed, you get tons of high mids for a (excuse the cliché) Jaco-esque tone, which you can fatten up with the blend. OR you can start with the more "vintage" tone of the neck pickup and blend in the bridge for brightness, as I do.
There are warm, useable sounds at most every position of the blend knob - as advertised, it is a vintage-style instrument enhanced with a little modern Warwick vibe. A touch heavy with the 2Tek bridge, but the position of the weight balances perfectly and results in an almost reverse neck dive. Highly recommended if you can find one, and while I've seen them sell for under $1000 (my own was a steal at 6 bills!), it's been a couple years since I've seen one come up for sale AT ALL. Apparently only a few hundred were made.

As for the pricing, they have been going for under a grand, but nobody is selling them anymore so I believe that may change. I have one I was considering selling, and was getting offers for $700 and $800. It's so not worth my getting rid of for that so I decided to keep it, at least until they start commanding a bit more. Once people start realizing how rare they've become, and how awesome they are, that might start happening. If not, I've got a flashback for life. Not going to complain. |

| | Marco Bass Endorser Endorsing Artist: Marco Bass Guitars | | | | | I found one for 750 and am trying to talk the price down.
The sound I think I will get used to. Just turn it up. From what I have heard they sound great. I'm a big time slapped so the Masterman is great. |

Would be sad to lose it to try and save $50. I'm rarely seeing these for sale anymore, and you might have to wait years before one comes up again. And I don't believe I've ever seen one go for less than $700.
Good luck. Can't wait to see pix if ya get it.

But DON'T buy it for slapping unless you're sure the neck pickup position won't bother you. Slapping is what the *Masterman* is for! |

If you buy them ship to your local store for pickup for free. I just can't afford it right now. Gotta sell another bass before I can |

I liked it enough to unload the first one I had. |

Someone here should really grab that Flashback! I've picked up 3 in the last month and she who must be obeyed would kill me if I got another!

Somebody here needs to grab that, or the Masterman.

I might change my mind but for now it is on the TB classifies so at the very least enjoy the eye candy. She is a sweet player.
Keep on rockin.
