Question Warwick Franken bass... Thumb? Streamer? Help me identify ???

Sign in to disble this ad
I was in a local music shop the other day and I saw a used Warwick bass they were listing as a Thumb. seriel number B-654321-00. Which should make it a 2000 made in Feb. Something wasnt quite right with it. the neck was a 5 string, painted white with a truss rod cover that said thumb (I figure those are easy enough to swap), Black color on the headstock, and is Bolted onto what looks like a Streamer shape body but with 6 screws holding it together instead of 4. The body is also white, but looks tinged yellowish, like it is older than the neck. The body is also scalloped, or curved/convex in shape. It definitly had some good weight to it. It had 2 Jazz MEC pickups and three knobs. 1 volume, 1 blend, and a stacked bass treble. the cable jack was on the bottom side edge of bass and not the front, like the 2000 Streamers.
Sorry I don't have any Pics, I only realized it looked weird after I got home and did some research.

Does this shape, color, layout. ring any bells?

Thanks,
-AJ

Yeah, I will try to get back there in the next few days and shoot a few pics. Are there any views that would be especially helpful?

Full frontal pics should help, also the 6 neck bolts. That said, w/o seeing it but going by the OP, I'm guessing it's an older Streamer body(which I believe are concave/curved)w/a newer(from the serial #)neck, maybe a second-hand trussrod cover. The 6-bolt part is odd- a mod perhaps?

None of this sounds right.

If it was a 5 bolt neck id say it was a streamer std

Some pics. The frets don't look like brass. And like they were replaced at some point?

I don't think it's a Warwick.

Body shape is well off.

Just to add this to the conversation, my streamer LX-5 was a concave body made in 99. That said, this bass is very odd. The 6 bolts is weird. The body isn't shaped right for a streamer. The end of the neck/fretboard where it meets the body is strange too. That's not standard on a warwick, at least not a bolt on.

Upper horn is unlike any Warwick I have seen. Looks like a cool bass but I don;t think it is a Warwick.

Even the seriel number looks bogus, B-654321-00...It doesn't show up on Wariwick's own search tool.
Warwick Basses Amps & Rock'n Roll
Plus if you invert the number 00-123456-B...I think the B is for bogus...

I'm sitting here looking at the Warwick Fortress in our store, and that thing you posted looks like a Corvette had a child with a Fortress. It also kind of reminds me of the old EBD line from Ibanez. Strange indeed.

Pretty much everything everyone has said so far are thoughts that have been going around in my head. It actually didn't sound bad and had a pretty tight Low B. But they are asking $900 for it, and that is too much especially for a fake/mis-mosh Warwick. Maybe I can talk em into a reasonable price.

Is this on Consignment at Starving Musician in Santa Clara ? Ask if you can take the cover off the back of the body. Then check out how bad the wiring for the pre was done. Offer them $100.00 and see if they bite..
