I am a huge Jbass fan, I think it can work for many things. I even enjoy a P / PJ, it is a bit more limited for me, but it can get the job done.
I just got a Warwick Corvette $$. This thing just screams a rockin' grindy-growl sound. I just love it. I also enjoy the chunkier neck. I have occasionally touched Warwicks but have never really sat down with them and dialed them in, etc. I really have been missing out. Granted, I don't think there is a best bass for metal etc, but the Warwick is nailing a sound I have always wanted that Ps, Js, and even a Ray couldn't do. I realize that my playing style has a lot to do with it, and I often sound like 'me' through different basses, but someone how my style mashes well with this Warwick.
Just curious what others think about their Warwick experience. Maybe you hate Warwicks? It makes me want to try a thumb and some some other models as well. I think with my Five string J and this Warwick, my bases are covered.

Decided I'm just a Fender guy with 3 jazzes, 1 p and my recent fav, a p/j. |

Otherwise, it's really awesome. A myriad of good tones, the best fat neck ever(IMO), and quality construction. Mine doesn't even neck dive much.
I got the warwick bug, and somehow traded for a Thumb NT5. It was a really cool bass. Probably the tightest, clearest, punchiest bass I've played. Unique tone.
The construction was great again, and it set up really well. One of the better low Bs I've heard. The tone was good, but not really what I prefer.
The neck dive was bad.....with a wide strap it got better....but beware.
Overall, I think Warwicks are great basses, but tend to be a little love/hate due to their non-tradition designs and tones.

The neck bucker solo'd is what I always wanted a P to be. For the first time in a long time, I am happy with my two basses covering the sounds I want.

I was playing the neck pickup in series mode for the longest time......great tone.
I also like the single/single jazz tone it can put out.

(like me) because it can accomodate a huge range of preferences.
i also love the transparency of the $$, it just enables you to play however you want. it has no image or history (unlike a fender bass, stingray, etc) to distract you, it's not centered on any one particular tone, and no famous people play them. they have sort of the "style of no style" as bruce lee would say.

I had stopped playing for several years and the $$ was the first bass I bought to get back into playing. I can't see myself ever selling this bass since it has so many different settings I can use but lately I have been loving the sound of just the neck pickup in parallel mode. I see what people are saying about the baseball bat necks but I haven't had any problem with it at all.
I really want a 5 string to add to the family and the Corvette and the Streamer $$ are at the top of my list. A local place by me has an active Corvette Standard for a great price but I think I might miss the dual humbuckers.

Such an awesome sounding bass, no matter how you set it.

I don't get that. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
