Warwick Just a nut III/ Waxing? help!

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a warwick corvette $$. Whenever I take the strings off, the nut always comes off. Is it suppose to do this ?

Also when I bought my bass I did not get any warwick beeswax with it (I didnt know I was suppose to or I was suppose to wax it until recently). I bought it brand new and have had it for a year and its never been waxed. Could this have affected my bass at all? Im hoping not because im paranoid of anything happening to it. Im gonna pick up some warwick beeswax this weekend.

So how many times a week do I need to wax it? What parts of the bass do I need to wax other than the body? Right now everytime I change the strings I use Dunlop 01 Fingerboard Cleaner and Prep and then right after that I use Dunlop fingerboard Deep conditioner.

Is there any other tips you can give me for taking care of my warwick?

It's nothing to worry about, they are suppose to be able to come off. Now what might be an issue is if you let it come off and then allow the screws get twisted around. That said, it's an easy fix and will only move your string height by the neck higher or lower.

Don't worry if you haven't applied the wax. Just start applying a thin layer every month or two to the body (don't worry about the neck because the oils from your hands will do the trick there).

Change it : crap.

You can find the brass nut they used to fit out their basses in early days (before cutting down quality).

Take a look at the "Warwick Store online". They sell them as replacement part in many size.

MINWAX CHOICE

Dear Bassguppy :
I had a Warwick 4 string Corvette for 3 years, nice sounding bass and a gem as a German craftmanship object. I still regret I've sold it ....... buaaaaaa!!!!
I used "Minwax Paste Finishing Wax" instead of Warwick bee wax each month and result was PERFECT (just in case)

Your over doing the fretboard conditioner. Normally couple times a year is plenty. If thberes no visible or feelable signs of dryness to body its ok wax wise. However, it'll be better with wax coat. You can but it from anyhplace online that sells warwick. Just look for the warwick wax. How and how often to apply. Generally I think its good idea to wax it lightly once a week for the first month. Then about once every 3 months for rest of the year. Then as desired after that every few months. Besides creating a protective coat, waxing your warwick will also give it a nice light sheen and feel. A richer wood look etc. The suggested minwax paste finish wax would good good alternative to warwicks imo.

My JANII doesnt pop off, I don't know if they're supposed to or not..mine stays put.

I use Warwick beeswax, can't go wrong with the original wood care stuff. I wax lightly weekly since I don't know how the previous owner kept it and it's just something to do. :P

Is your $$ a natural finish? I had a black $$, with a swamp ash body and the finish on it didn't require waxing. Yours might be similar.

Correct....do not wax coloured oil finish Warwicks. They don't need it, and waxing will ruin the finish. You can apply a little on the back of the neck, but some don't like the feel this gives. YKMV ....(Kilometres in Australia!)

The Jan III should be able to fall off etc when strings aren't on. The Jan II should stay fixed - the Jan II are prone to breakage, hence the upgraded Jan III which solved that problem. Just be careful not to lose it when changing strings.
