Warwick for my Guild: Good or not???

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi!

Someone ask me to trade my Guild B-302A 1979 for a Warwick Corvette classic fretless Bunbinga body ovankgol and wenge neck with ebony fretboard. Pickups Jazz active MEC. Made in Germany February 2003.

I don't know if it's a ''Pro series Standard'' or another models but looks like a very good bass to me!

Can you tell me If this Warwick is good quality bass and if a trade ok with this bass?
N.B. It's no problem for me to sell or trade this vintage bass, I don't play with it!

Thanks!
Billy

I always have played vintage instruments but recently tried a german made corvette $$. I found the sound to be way too polished and not nearly organic enough for my tastes, but it really boils down to what you like. Both are well made instruments. Just curious, why don't you like the guild? I've actually been thinking about getting one of these. Is there something I should know?

Two diff instruments sound and feel wise. Both are very good imo but sig diff animals. Warwicks are a try before buy bass imo due to their weight and sound. They weigh more then most basses and have a diff modern aggressive sound to them. The one your looking at is a professional bass, all german made warwicks are. Irregardless of where they lay in the model lineup. If your looking to get a fretless it could be great choice if you like J pups. And modern aggressive tone thats still woody. If your not looking to get fretless isnt good choice. Lol.

Well, a 1997 Wick Bubinga fretless seduced me in 2005. After 20 years non activity, this was the first bass that really knocked me. They are exceptionally well made and if you like the woody approach, incredible bang for the buck. But in all honesty, people like myself are becoming a minority judging by the poor second hand prices (two weeks ago I scored a near mint 93 Thumb B.O for a meagre 580 euro) .
The Guild is considered vintage and holds its value very well.
Bottom line, unless you really fall in love with the Wick and you fancy fretless as much as I do, I would really think twice.
Anyway...good luck!

Finaly, I keep the monster!

A rare model (go see my other post) and after a good job on it, it's going to be a hell of a bass once done!

Big bottom, planty of sounds combinasion with the switchable pickups, bridge, neck or all together! Easy and quick fretboard, the Schaller M-4 tuners are very good too, the bridge is massif and quite unique!
The neck's diving a little when we put it on are shoulder but not enough to be unpleasant.

Nothing missing, everything's original on it.

Conclusion: If the bass once adjusted stay tuned and the neck stay right too, than it's going to stay with daddy a long time!!

Thanks for your help, very appreciated!

Thumbs up

You're welcome, Billy

Good luck with your Guild. Always found them very beautiful, loads of mojo...a really distinctive design. Cherish

I think you made the right choice. Billy, or anyone else, what would you compare the 301 or 302's sound to? Right now I have a 78 pbass and a 69 EB3L (it is my main bass).
