Warwick questions

Sign in to disble this ad
so i have a few questions about warwick. i am looking into there lower end stuff and i have been reading that the rockbass do not have the same tone as the real German ones but the real ones are a bit out of my price range. so i was wondering what is the difference in the rockbass lines between the 3 types of Corvette (basic, classic and premium). as well as how does the new corvet line (the BUBINGA made in korea) compare to both the rockbass and to the real German ones my price range is around that $1000 mark ( i live in canada so our basses run a little more then the US ones) but if the rockbass our a good bass i would love to spend less.

Shop the TB classifieds and find a German made Corvette for WAY less than $1000 and don't worry about compromising. If you want a 'wick, get a REAL 'wick. My 2 cents, but trust me, you won't regret the investment.

Yup, look for a used Warwick if your budget is up to $1,000 opposed to a new Rockbass.

You can find some great prices on used Warwicks here on TB and on Ebay. Just the other day on Ebay I saw a lightly worn Corvette $$ ($1800 new) sell for $650. The Rockbass stuff is not bad but not quite worth the retail prices. You can find great deals on those new and used as well. I've not checked out any of the Korean made Warwicks so I can't comment on those.

The imports are good. But the real german ones are a bit better. Main diff though imo is the woods used. The bubinga korean version would be my pick from the import versions. Unless one wanted the tonal qaulity etc of alder instead. The current imports, chinese included, use the same pups, preamps, and I think same hardware, as the german ones. To the best of my understanding.

I have both a Passive Rock Bass Corvette (Paid $599 new at GC), and more recently found an active Standard 02 Corvette (Paid $600 via CL). Both are 5 string. Both have great sound. I am definitely keeping the Rock Bass, since the resale of those are between $300 and $400, and the neck on the Rock Bass has the BEST feel of any bass I have ever played.

When I bought the 02 Corvette, I never realized that it would be that much more impressive with fit, function, materials and the excellent active electronics I find just blows me away and adds so much to my SVT sound that I crave. The real Corvette with the Bubinga body feels like concrete and is heavy as $hit! I have really found my bass though.

Bottom Line: Wanna save money, buy a Rock Bass for $350 on CL. Wanna have the unlimate, buy a German Corvette for around $600 to $800 on CL. Both are great players! Both can be had for well under $1K
