Warwick serial numbers: Right to left or left to right?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello there!

A question for Warwick experts:

I have just received my second Warwick. A German Streamer LX5.
My first one is a custom shop Thumb NT 4.
Both lefties.

I have noticed that the serial number is not engraved the same way in both basses.
Put the bass in playing position and in one instrument the number is written from left to right, with the digits for the year further away from the body and in the other one the number is written from right to left, with the digits for the year closer to the body and upside down.

Does it really matter?
Have I got a fake?
Do Warwick engrave the serial numbers as they wish or do they have some rules?
I know that from 2007 they started to laser the numbers below the machine heads but this...

Any info would be helpful
Thanks
