Can anyone tell me about this bass? All I know is it was made 1990-92, Part of the Chicago Series, neck through with 26 frets, maple over ash, Active PJ setup.

I've never heard of it until a student called with a line on one

Thanks

I used to have one of the guitar versions, the 36 fret EC-36.

The Basses are very rare ducks indeed especially in good condition, i have only seen one in my life and that was on ebay for all of a few days.

That one went for about $400. Whilst they are pretty rare, they dont fetch much money.

The official designation was Washburn Chicago series, B80 and B90, The B90 being the better bass, but both come with the stephens extended cutaway.

I would love to aquire one!

Isn't it the same profile they used for N4 guitars?

It was stephens original design for the cutaway to be a neck thru, then the horrible bolt on incarnation was made standard as it was much cheaper to build. The neck thru was far superior.

Made in Japan. All the EC and B series were anyway. People seem to think they were made in the US because of the "Chicago" label.

Yup your students is a B-80 the "Standard" version, the B-90 was the premium version. The B-80 usually had a crackle paint job or standard one colour.
