Washtub bass. Cheap.

Hey guys, I'm not sure if this should be in the luthier section, but I'm on a mission to make a washtub bass, but I really don't know where to begin. I have very basic knowledge of tools and etc so I'd want a project that would be easy, but I'd also like something that was playable and not just a conversation piece.

What is the easiest (and least expensive) way to make a nice playing and sounding washtub?

If it's not too hard, I was thinking about making this bass 2 string, and having it "bendable" by a fourth. So the strings would be tuned E and D, and when bent would be A and G. But I'm not sure how practical this is.

Any and all help would be appreciated .

PS - Yes, I have seen the early threads showcasing the 2-string washtub, but it really doesn't tell me how to make one for myself.
