Weekly trip to GC - surprised by the Jaguar Special

Stopped by GC after work tonight to try out a few things. I'm in the market for a cheap stop-gap bass so I played a bunch of squiers. I've had my eye on the Vintage Modified 70s. The few I have played sound really nice. This one wasn't setup great though. However, I did get to try out the new Squier Jaguar Special.

They had a sunburst and a Red, both in the PJ combo. Both were setup great and sounded awesome. I A/B'd them with the VM 70s, CV60s and VM77, it beat them all hands down. These are now at the top of my list. My only complaint is that they don't have the 3-band active electronics like the humbucker version has. I'm a bit leery about the quality of electronics in an active bass for $200, but too my ears it sounded good.

Also - played a Marcus Miller, damn those things are nice. I'm not even a huge MM fan but that thing just feels better than almost anything Ive played.

THE MM bass is really incredibly well built for a fender. They really do a great job putting those things together. Definitely my next bass!
