Hey everyone. I am looking to get a fender jazz bass off of ebay. Most auctions have the weights listed. I was just curious, what is the average weight of lighter basses, and what is the average weight of heavier basses? (I talking about Alder wood) Even just ball-park insight would be helpful.

The traditional Jazz shape is a big body with lots of wood. It seems pretty rare one would be under 8 lbs. I have seen/heard of some contempoary jazz shapes around 7 lbs, but the bodys are usually shrunkin.. |

My modded SX is somewhere from 10-11lbs. It's up there.

New ones average at 9lbs. I had a '68 that was a bit under 8#... |

| | | | I've had several and they've been in the 9 ~10 lb range. Off topic but maybe useful info for the OP. Warmoth sells chambered bodies that are considerably lighter than standard solid bodies without sacrificing any tonal quality. I currently own one and it is my favorite Jazz Bass. |

Lightest one I've owned (MIA 2000, ash body) weighed 8lbs.
