The weight of Schecter Damien-5

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys, I am thinking of ordering a Schecter Damien-5 or Omen-5 online. But as I have no chance of trying them, I would appreciate some advices here.

I am currently using an Epiphone Thunderbird bass. But because I am having shoulder and back problem, the heavy weight of the TBird isn't exactly helping at all. Every now and then I would have to stop a session and rest for a while or sit down and play. Thus I am on a lookout for a light weight bass and also a chance to convert to a 5-strings.

I've tried the Schecter C-5 and was surprised at how light and comfortable it is. After checking the site, I kinda have my sight on either the Damien-5 or Omen-5. But because the local stores here do not stock any of these models for me to try out, only the C-5 and Raiden-5, I am not 100% sure if the weight of those basses would be the same.

I googled around but couldn't find any weight specification on the Damien-5 or Omen-5. For owners of these basses, can you advise if these basses are as generally light weight, as comparision, to the C-5?

Many thanks!

i dont own either, but i'm almost certain that both will weigh less than your epi t-bird, seeing as the body on both the damien and omen 5'ers are basswood, which is usually a pretty lightweight wood.

Dimensions and Weight in Packaging
Shipping Weight: 15 lbs
Shipping Dimensions: 44 x 19 x 5 in

so take off MAYBE 2 pounds for the box, tape, and anything else that is used for shipping.

whenever I need to know the weight of a guitar I go to a web site that sells it and look at the shipping weight.

here is the shipping weight of a Thunderbird

Dimensions and Weight in Packaging
Natural Oil Satin
Shipping Weight: 10 lbs
Transparent Black
Shipping Weight: 10 lbs
Vintage Sunburst
Shipping Weight: 10 lbs

so the Schecter is about 5 pounds heavier, I have a studio 5, it's shipping weight is 16 pounds and it is a heavy bass

Thanks guys, that helps alot.

I'm just surprised that the Schecter would actually come off weighing more than the TBird, granted that the latter is famous for its heavy deadweight.

If that is really the case, then I guess I will have to continue looking at maybe the Ibanez Soundgear or Yamaha TRB Series.

i dont think shipping weight is a fair assessment of the bass's weight considering you dont know how well (or poorly) each bass is packed. plus, the t-bird has an alder (or mahogany, depending on the finish) body, plus that massive bridge. the schecters have basswood bodies and smaller bridges. 5-string or not, im gonna hazard a guess and say the schecters are lighter, if not close to the same. the ibanez SRs are worth checking out too.
