Weird pickups on a supposed '64 jazz 1 Attachment(s) Attachment 326307 A local music store put this photo up of a bass they had just acquired and my curiosity peaked. They claim it to be a 1964 Jazz. It is obviously a refin with a Badass bridge, but check out the pickups!! I'm counting 9 poles lol Anyone know what type of pickups these are? |

dont think the body is a american Fender or fender at all. how much does we wants for the bass? |
I thought the same thing man lol! He hasn't posted a price, so I can't say for certain, but I'll update if I hear. |
They look like Wilde (Bill Lawrence) J-45 PUs to me |

I love this site! |
My god those are 5 string jazz pickups, who would do such a thing!!!! That is infact a 60s jazz but the pickups and routs are f€&@&€ with prolly the pots and controle cavity will be mangled with aswell. Then again if it sounds real Nice it might be worth restoring... |
these are standard jazz size pickups (4 string) but due to the pole arrangement they can be used on 5s and some narrow 6s (assuming they are the J45 PUs) |
pickguard isn't original either, it's too "specky" and dark, that's from the late sixties, early seventies. |
It looks like the neck at least is intact, or at least doesn't look like a mismatched pile of parts. On the other hand, if someone took the time to mod it this much, it's a player. |
never seen something like that. 9 poles? |
I don't think I am wrong, if they were standard 5 string PUs, they would have 10 poles (2 per string) not the 9 that these PUs have. assuming these are the J-45 pick-ups (and I'm not aware of any other equally spaced 9 pole Jazz pu, correct me if I am wrong) the website that I linked above lists the dimensions as: Neck: Bridge: Width: 0.73" Width: 0.73" Length: 3.55" Length: 3.71" Depth: 0.83" Depth: 0.83" Which are pretty close to the standard 4 string Jazz PU size. Also from the site: The J-45 set offers Bill's multi-pole piece system for 4 string, 5 and some narrow 6 string Jazz Bass instruments. His airgap noisefree design for the jazz bass replacement comes standard with pole pieces at a slight stagger to accommodate most neck radius. Flush pole pieces are available per request which may require additional wait time. |
I'm with ya Tink, I think they are the Lawrence pickups for sure, |
