I thought Divinity Roxx was the bass player for Beyonce?

Have you taken in the delay added to the performance? Live video feeds screw everything up when somebody hits the delay button to cover up a nip-slip. They might go live for one part and then delay for another to cover something up.

No big deal. It's television.
I clearly saw a stage being taken down and moved across a field as the announcers said stuff after the half-time show. Clearly there was something that required union riggers.. Your saying that was a TV screen for the people who paid to see the superbowl, halftime show and all? I'm finding a logical fallacy in your "they cannot have mistakes on live TV" argument.

I doubt they really played it - all show. The advancement in electronics and production methods has made it so no one has to actually perform live anymore. Long live the 60s and 70s.

Pretty sure I've seen TV shows from the 60's and 70's where the band wasn't even plugged in.

Why is this even a debate? Every article on google says she didn't lip sync and the show was real. I guess that's enough for me. If they were all saying she did lip sync we'd believe them without a second thought, like we did with the inauguration performance. Just because we might not like her genre doesn't mean we have to be cynical about her integrity.

I said that earlier but I posted a clip of the Super Bowl rehearsal and she wasn't part of the band. Don't know where she is.

Don't get jaded, there are some bands out there that still play.

A lot of the production sounded pretty fake, but the drums sounded real.

It didn't look like the guitarist or the bass player were really playing. Then again I wasn't looking that closely.

Point 3- If you manage to get gear that NEVER malfunctions under any circumstances so you can always pull off LIVE, INTERNATIONAL events, then I salute you, because I've seen and been victim of gear that quit on me right before a show and during a show.

Maybe it was a live show, maybe it wasn't. Like I said earlier, I didn't watch it, so I can't say one way or the other, but history is probably not on your side...
You do know ppl have already posted youtube videos they recorded inside the stadium during halftime and posted them which shows all the stuff they showed on tv. Maybe you should watch it first then comment.

Personally I would much rather watch a live performance warts and all any day over watching someone pretend to play. If someone flubs a part, the sound isn't quite right, and the staging isn't as spectacular that still beats the heck out of watching someone pretend.

But I get that I am not everyone . . .

All due respect to Lauren Taneil and her EBMM.
Super Bowl Half Time Gig
It's called a "prop" bass and the song was "pretend you're playing"
Granted she probably recorded the bass lines in a studio weeks before the gig.

And for the record, if they asked me to play that gig and told me to strap on a pink, Hello Kitty, made in China, POS bass and pretend to play, I'd leap at the opportunity.

Heck yes, MANY times. I can't begin to count all the times a band appeared on TV back then and solos were taken by people obviously not on stage, and the music faded out at the end as the producers cranked up the canned applause.

Too many of my fellow Boomers look at that era with rose-colored glasses.

I am definitely no regular listener of pop/R&B, 'nor am I some apologist super fan. But:

Beyonce Knowles does not lip sync. She has a damn great voice and will likely be remembered as a one of the "great" singers of this modern time. I do enjoy a good singing voice, no maetter the genre. She has gotten better and better with age and (likely) training.

I am however, in love with Alicia Keys. and yes, her wonderfully limited voice did a great job with the National Anthem. Not only was it a solid performance, but I enjoyed how she subtly changed the timing and flow of the song, but as you said, didn't try to overdo it with her voice. I always enjoy her live.

Everyone on the stage are capable musicians. The issue is that the halftime is a fixed time and you cannot go over. Period. With all the production that goes into the halftime show you basically have two choices:

1) Play instruments and vocals live and listen to everyone bitch about how terrible the vocalists / bands / etc sound or...

2) Lip sync / air guitar a lot of the show and have a few musicians bitch about how they could play better.

Well I mean, yeah sure, any instruments not on stage, probably all of the effects, and backup vocals in stuff like this are back tracks and/or engaged by the sound guy.

But, Music is based around "time", yeah? So, why can't some actual singers and players keep time, nail the transitions, and knock out a half time show?

You both failed to read my entire post.

There was a performance (most likely to a prerecorded music track) at halftime for the arena audience. There has always been that.

The TV audience saw a different prerecorded performance. Or a combination of real-time and prerecorded.

What's the big deal? It's TV.

Ok, I'm gonna slow this down. Nobody said the show didn't happen, this issue at hand is DID THEY ACTUALLY PLAY. We all know they were there, in the stadium, on the stage, with mics & guitars & amps, but DID THEY ACTUALLY PLAY or was the music recorded at an earlier time and then played back for the people watching on the TV AND the people in the stadium(see how I'm not saying the show didn't happen?)to hear? They can do that, ya' know, record something and play it back later...

Did you really just say that? LOL! I like Beyonce as much as the next guy, but really? You may be right, though, after her lip-synching debacle a few weeks ago, I'm sure she didn't want to go through that again...

I also agree that Alicia Keys is AMAZING!
