What basses 'Mwaaahh' that aren't a Wish bass?

And what is it thats part of the design that makes them Mwaaahh? Being fretless?

Ive been looking more closely at what Wish basses are all about and have more appreciation for them. But if I ever had one built it would have to be more of my own design. But back to the point...My favorite feature is the great Mwaaahh that I hear time and time again in the vids ive watched.

But is this only specific to Wish? What is causing that effect? What else out there Mwaaahs? Is it just a fretless thing?

Fretless and a really hard fingerboard, like ebony or epoxied rosewood.

Fretless and plucking above the fretboard.

I find Wishbasses kinda "moo", not mwah.

I think Pedulla when I think mwah.

Just me though.

It's my understanding that mwah, muaha, or muhahahaha, comes from a hard fingerboard and low action and plucking near the end of the fingerboard.

So if I just went fretless I would be closer to Mwaaah? Cool.

Here's an A/B comparison with the second being my new fretless.

This thing has TONS of mwahhh. Epoxy over a BEM board.

True Dat. You can use the truss rod to control the amount of Mwah. The more relief in the neck the less mwah and the cleaner the tone.

Zon, Zon, or Zon. Maybe a Zon. You could also try a Zon. Fretless of course!

Yeah, if you've got a fretted bass that has mwaaah, you've got a problem.

Two questions:

1. Would a maple neck be hard enough?

2. Is applying epoxy to a neck a DIY job?

As long as it has rounds and not flats you can get that sound pretty easy IMO
