What is the Best Neck?

So now that I have your attention... What is your personal favorite neck configuration and why? Fretted or Fretless?

Personally I love an All maple neck. It just looks so right and so purty. I honestly hate the look of a rosewood fingerboard/maple neck, but really love the look of an all rosewood neck/fingerboard. Sadly I have only played one neck like that (Was a Stringray 5 at GC and it sounded quite delicious)

P.S. Bonus points for those who make me GAS for a Rosewood/Maple neck through pictures of a sexy bass.

P.S.S. I don't want arguing about which configuration is better. Everyone has their personal choice as to which is better and lets leave it at that. (Because obviously Maple/Maple is the best )

Typically a fairly thin maple/rosewood with very small frets is my favorite, but that's by no means verbatim for every bass I like. Nut width doesn't so much matter to me, I'm playing exclusively 1 11/16" P-size necks now but I've played others like that I hate and Jazz-width necks I love and hate. Blocks and binding is always welcome too. I like really thick all maple guitar necks though (my Hanson is heaven to me.)

Giraffe...

My preference is a very thin Maple neck, with a rose wood slab, unlined fretless, and with a huge nut width. Ideally the maple and rose wood will be quite figured (just for aesthetic reasons), the finish will be satin (for speed), and a nice soft head angle. Two trus rods, with access at the headstock.

Composite graphite with a phenolic fingerboard, jumbo frets, tuners on the body...
Steinberger!
Okay, maybe not.
I love my Warmoth maple/rosewood jazz neck. Just slightly chunkier than a Fender jazz neck.

My fretless has a Dymondwood fingerboard and maple neck. Love the tone of that fingerboard.

I would love to play an all ebony unlined fretless neck. Preferably one that is on the thicker side, but ebony necks are rare enough all ready.

Lakland USA Bob Glaub with Joe Osborn neck. East Indian Rosewood and Birdseye Maple dots. If this doesn't make you like Rosewood fretboards on a Maple neck, nothing will. And yes, that's quartersawn maple.

With its USA Joe Osborn brother with the same type of neck:

Hell yeah, All day.

Though a guilty pleasure of mine is an unlined fretless burl maple board with tiger maple neck with some crazy amount of lacquer.

Any neck that doesn't require 75 truss rod adjustments per year.

Fretted with no laquier. And FAT. Like the one on Warwicks or old Precisions. Dark woods.

I'm a huge Maple Neck, Rosewood Fretboard combination fanboy. I like them finished like on my AV62 P. I just can't get with maple unless it's finished ala the Stingray Classic. I just find that on my SR gets really funky, but I still rock it.

I'm a biased Warwick lover, so Ovangkol with Wenge fretboard wins it for me (yes I've played the Wenge necks, and I still prefer Ovangkol).

That out of the way, I also love ebony boards with no markers of any sort and 1 1/2" nut. And tuners on both sides (ie 2+2, 3+1, 3+2, 4+1, etc). Also either oil or satin finish, no poly or gloss necks for me.

I played a bass with a laminate maple/pau ferro/purpleheart neck, and a pau ferro (or was it purpleheart?) board, that was way cool......can't recall what bass it was, though...Rudy's Music Stop, mid -90's, though....

I don't care that much for that as long as it matchs the color of the bass...

So I have 2 Maple/rosewood , 1 walnut/maple, 2 maple/ebony ( a fretless and a DB )

My friend had a Fender Precision Bass. It had a gloss black painted neck and headstock with a rosewood fretboard. I thought it was cool.
